Hospitality business advisors Christie + Co have been instructed to market for sale the 5-Star Radisson Edwardian Hotel in Manchester on behalf of Les Ross and Matt Dunham, who are acting as administrative receivers and agents of Free Trade Hall Hotel Limited.
The offering comes with a long-term management contract in place with Radisson Edwardian Group who will continue to ensure high quality service levels at the hotel.
Located on the site of Manchester’s most historic and celebrated building, the Free Trade Hall, the hotel is in the heart of the city. The 263-bedroom hotel was Radisson Edwardian’s first luxury hotel outside of London. Capitalising on, and in keeping with, the original stylish façade, the hotel provides luxury accommodation and guest services — including health and leisure facilities — whilst delivering a selection of superb conference, function and meeting facilities for clients.
In addition, the hotel’s Halle Suite is one of the city’s largest function rooms and a superb setting for conferences, shows, dinner-dances and weddings.
Guest rooms and suites are luxuriously appointed, with four luxury penthouse suites overlooking the city of Manchester, and 18 unique ‘al-fresco suites’ each with its own entertaining area and urban garden.
There are also dining and entertainment options, with two restaurant/bars. Meanwhile, the health and leisure facilities include beauty and relaxation treatments along with gym equipment and an indoor swimming pool.
Jeremy Jones, Director of Corporate Hotels at Christie + Co says: “We are delighted to have been given the instruction to market this iconic and historic Manchester property. With its unique history, fantastic central Manchester location and its luxurious facilities, the Radisson Edwardian represents a unique opportunity to acquire one of the city’s finest hotels, located directly opposite the Manchester Central. We expect there to be significant interest from a variety of local and national investors. Radisson Edwardian continues to manage this profitable and robust business and there will be no disruption to guest services or staff as a result of the sales process.”
Manchester Free Trade Hall – a brief history
Even before the first of the Halls was erected, the site in Peter Street, Manchester was of historic importance as the location of the infamous ‘Peterloo Massacre’ in 1819. Fifteen peaceful protestors (against the Corn Laws and lack of parliamentary representation) were killed by cavalry. The event hastened the repeal of the Corn Laws and the 1832 Reform Act which is the foundation of the UK’s parliamentary and electoral structure as we know it today. The first Hall was built in 1840 and remained the setting for important political events and speeches by some of Britain’s political giants, including Gladstone, Disraeli, Lloyd George and Churchill.
More recently, the Free Trade Hall has been renowned as a superior entertainment venue, whether your tastes are for the classical magnificence of the Halle Orchestra, the vivid spoken word accounts of great explorers like Shackleton and Scott, or the more modern styles of Bob Dylan and punk rock.
