The Shipwrights Arms is in Helford on the edge of the Helford River, which is probably one of the most unspoilt rivers in Cornwall, with its deep sheltered valleys, ancient oak forests and hidden creeks. There is also a pedestrian ferry which links the north and south banks of the river, crossing over the Helford Passage.
Helford village is filled with tiny riverside cottages, all of which are grouped around the tidal creek and the majority looking out to sea. There is also a shop, tearooms and sailing club.
The pub is an 18th Century Grade II Listed thatched public house in a dominant position on the river, with access to its own private slipway making it extremely popular with the local sailing fraternity. The business briefly comprises: main bar, restaurant and commercial kitchen on the ground floor plus three/four-bedroom owner’s accommodation on the ground and first floors. Externally, there is seating for around 128 people by way of picnic benches over three tiered seating areas, all with views over the river.
The Exeter Office of leading licensed property agents, Christie + Co, has been instructed to market the freehold interest. Associate Director at Christie + Co’s Exeter Office, commented: “The current owners have operated the Shipwrights Arms for the past 22 years, during which time the business has maintained a strong turnover. The inn enjoys much repeat business, with a substantial increase in trade during the summer months. Having owned and operated the business for a substantial period, our clients are now looking to retire and take life a little easier. Riverside inns of this nature are few and far between and we expect much early interest.”
The freehold for the Shipwrights Arms is available off an asking price of £595,000.
