Just when West Ham Football Club thought things could not get any worse following relegation from the Premier League last Sunday afternoon, Monday evening their end of season ‘bash’ witnessed a brawl erupt at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.
Following an alleged request from a fan for an autograph from striker Demba Ba, who refused on the basis he was apparently too tired, the trouble flared.
After paying £275 a head to attend the event, supporters would have expected a pretty special evening and certainly not have expected a player to refuse to sign an autograph, especially on such a flimsy excuse. After being let down throughout the season by most of the team this clearly was too much for some.
An ugly brawl to mar an evening further then set in play, with tables, chairs, tableware and punches being thrown. Hotel security tried to calm the situation as did guest host Sky Sports presenter Ben Shephard. All to no avail before two police cars were called to the scene.
In a season of football where if it could have went wrong it did for West Ham United the end of season ‘BASH’ seems an almost inevitable conclusion.
