Treasured Barcelona artisan brewery Cerveses La Pirata has joined UK importer Morgenrot’s sublime stable of Spanish craft beers following a successful launch of its unique range at the recent Craft Beer Rising.
The new selection plundered by Manchester’s oldest established beer and wine importer from Catalonia includes:
Draught – 30 litre key kegs
Viakrucis (6% ABV) – a full flavoured American IPA made using Citra, Summit and CTZ hops. The perfect ‘All Day IPA’ with a great body, balance, and markedly dry and bitter finish.
Súria (5% ABV) – a gluten free American Pale Ale light and fresh in the mouth with a soft bitterness that does not hide the malts. Made using Galena and Centennial hops, this orange light beer is very aromatic with delicate herbal nuances.
Packaged – 33cl bottles x 24 per case
Viakrucis IPA and Súria – see details above.
Sansa (6% ABV) – an amber ale made with Chinook and Simcoe hops. Reddish in colour with a full body, this beer has malty touches interspersed with the hops to give a touch a bitterness.
Black Bock (11.2% ABV) – this Russian Imperial Stout warms the heart and soul of anyone who tries it and is produced using Northern Brewer hops. It’s the pearl of the La Pirata stable.
Deep Inside (6.8% ABV) – a classic Porter brewed with Summit and Mosaic hops, it’s a dark beer with character and personality.
Morgenrot’s Commercial Director John Critchley said:
“We searched the high seas looking for some unique craft breweries to join our growing portfolio and after dropping anchor in Barcelona discovered the artisan brewery La Pirata and their treasure trove of wonderful beers. After witnessing first-hand consumer feedback to the beers at Craft Beer Rising, we knew instantly that they had a place in this competitive UK craft beer market and we look forward to unleashing them on the rest of the country. Additional ‘seasonal ranges” will also be coming to the UK and be available throughout the year so keep your eyes and ears open for further details of more crafty launches from this exciting brewery.”
Cerveses La Pirata
The brewery was founded by a couple of home brew enthusiasts who after experimenting in their kitchen between 2004 and 2012 started to develop a strong following amongst their friends for their artisan brews. Soon realising that they needed to increase production on a larger scale, Cerveses La Pirata was born and the Pirates were finally able to come out of hiding.
After three years living a nomadic life brewing in other factories, La Pirata opened their first brewery in October 2015 in Súria, a small village 70km from Barcelona. Since its inception the brewery has won the National Award for the Best Brewery in Fira del Poblenou (Barcelona) twice, while also picking up a number of other awards including two bronzes at the Global Craft Beer Awards. Keen collaborators too, the Catalan brewery has also created crafty beers with the UK’s Brew By Numbers, Kaapse Brouwers of the Netherlands and USA’s Against The Grain. Cerveses La Pirata’s philosophy is simple – they brew incendiary, craft and natural beers which make people smile.
Josep Ramiro from La Pirata said:

They have fantastic links with the leading Spanish restaurants and also provide us with a platform to target the quality pub, restaurant and bar trade in the UK. We had a fantastic few days with the Morgenrot team at Craft Beer Rising talking and tasting so we’re excited to hear the feedback from owners and operators.”
