Travelodge, one of the UK’s largest independent hotel chains and Pink Squid have won the award for ‘Best Internal Communications’ at the CIPD Recruitment Marketing Awards 2016, in recognition for its innovative learning travel tool case.
With over 500 hotels and 10,000 employees, Travelodge gave Pink Squid the challenge of creating a learning aid that made training fun, enjoyable, memorable and added value for its staff.
The initiative needed to incorporate a ‘tool box’ feel so that regular training updates could be easily issued to support ongoing business initiatives. Support various management levels and be easy for colleagues to use where English was not their first language.
Pink Squid rose to challenge and creatively utilising a travel theme created an innovative training aid using a Travelodge branded wheelie suitcase containing all the necessary training materials. However this case was no ordinary case, in true Bond style the suitcase also turns into a projector for presentations, contains hidden built in speakers and can showcase training videos via a USP port.
In addition to support the travel theme, all hotel managers were issued a passport and ink stamp so that they can get their passport stamped every time they complete a training module with their teams.
The travel case was built within three months and issued to over 500 Travelodge hotel managers.
The judges’ comments complemented the Travelodge training suitcase as being “A meticulously executed campaign that was novel and highly innovative.”
Travelodge beat, Kerry Foods, Ford, The Body Shop, Yo Sushi, Aviva and FCO services for the title of ‘Best Internal Communications’ at the CIPD Recruitment Marketing Awards 2016.
