Celebrity haunt Gigi’s of Mayfair has appointed visionary Head Chef Ivan Simeoli in a move designed to cement its position as London’s finest contemporary Italian restaurant.
The former Executive Head Chef at The Wallace Collection was appointed by the Woodstock Street restaurant this month. With 15 years’ experience in high-profile London restaurants, and with early career training at Massimo Bottura’s Osteria Francescana, the Italian-born chef uses innovative techniques to put a fresh, artistic twist on traditional Italian classics.
His menu includes a tribute to the English Breakfast with slow-poached egg, crispy San Daniele ham, Girolle mushrooms and pickled green tomato; flamed octopus with salt-baked onion juice and squid croutons, served in broad beans sauce; a razor clams feast; Osso buco with zafferano sauce, and homemade pappardelle; and a contemporary take on the beloved Italian tiramisu.
Confirming Gigi’s place
His commitment to exceptional and local produce, coupled with his sense of fun, play and innovation, look set to confirm Gigi’s place as one of London’s most extraordinary and fun-loving venues.
Speaking yesterday, Simeoli said: “I have a strong interest in creating and developing innovative cooking techniques from which I can pursue the creation of original, healthy dishes.
“Having lived in Britain for almost all my professional life, I’m a strong believer in amazing local produce that allows me to create a unique and versatile menu.”
