The Seven Stars in Brighton is sparkling once more after renovation. Just minutes from the beach, the Victorian Grade II listed pub, which has been trading since 1535, has been given a modern makeover, with a re-working of its menu to match.
Boasting a bright teal exterior, cheerful blues and greens throughout, together with Cheviot tweed cushions and bar stools, the pub now reflects the city’s colourful nature and features contemporary coloured glass lighting with reclaimed wooden tables, Chesterfield-style seating, an impressive mahogany bar top and tin ceiling tiled back bar. Hendrick’s gin bottles and china tea sets line the bar shelves.
Colourful beach scenes pepper the dining area’s walls and a new skylight floods the space with natural light. A bright blue railing in keeping with the railing spanning Brighton Beach separates a lower floor and raised mezzanine area for up to 30 people, ideal for parties or special occasions.
Food choices
Start with pan seared Scottish scallops with beetroot, ginger and pea shoots; or thyme and honey baked Camembert with griddled Young’s sourdough. Hearty mains include slow roasted pork belly roulade with fondant potato and Aspall’s wholegrain sauce; lamb shoulder and venison pie with whipped horseradish mash; or leek and Lincolnshire Poacher rarebit with poached egg and kale.
Finish your meal with a sticky toffee pudding and salted caramel ice cream or Young’s double chocolate stout brownie.
An all day brunch menu takes over at the weekends featuring Eggs Benedict, Eggs Florentine and The Full Seven Stars (London banger, streaky bacon, black pudding, fried free range hen’s eggs, roast mushroom, tomato, beans and toast). And Sunday’s menu extends to include a range of traditional British roasts.
Offering something for all the family, kids are fully catered for with their own Little People’s menu including mini British beef meatballs in tomato sauce or fish and chips with tartare sauce. All kids meals end with an ice lolly.
