London hotels are amongst the worst in the world, according to the annual Online Reputation Ranking by hotel comparison website trivago.co.uk. Destinations are ranked according to the reputation of their hotels, based on over 82 million hotel reviews and ratings aggregated from over 200 online booking sites. Included in the list are destinations with at least 130 hotels and 60 reviews.
Italy’s Sorrento, a popular tourist destination famed for its beaches and hillside location, boasts the most highly rated hotels in the world. Eastern Europe performs best as a region, with six locations in the top ten. Particularly notable is Poland, with Gdańsk, Kraków and Warsaw taking third, sixth and ninth place respectively. Hungary’s Budapest is the only capital city in the top ten.
UK: Edinburgh Hotels Rated Best

Surprisingly, London hotels were ranked below hotels in Blackpool, a destination which is not renowned for its hotels. In 96th position, hotels in London were rated amongst the worst in the world. London hotels are generally criticised for their high prices and small guest rooms, due to a lack of space in the capital city. With an average of £163 per night during 2013, London hotel rooms are frequently amongst the most expensive in Europe.Just four UK destinations appear in the ranking, due to the list only including destinations with at least 130 hotels and 60 reviews. Edinburgh hotels were ranked the highest in the UK in 39th position, with an index just a few per cent below Sorrento in first position.
Bottom Ten: Rio, Paris and London fail to impress

It is worrying to note that Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro, which will welcome tens of thousands of visitors for the FIFA World Cup this summer, is in the bottom ten. Rio has already been criticised for increased accommodation prices, which will peak at an average of £370 for the final on 13th July.
