Having a pie and a pint at a football match is a long held tradition that for a football fan is as much a part of the game as any other.
The HandCNews Football Pie League provides fans with an opportunity to vote for their own club’s pie if warranted and also vote for an away clubs pie. A football cliché or bit of footy banter included in a vote is encouraged and rewarded.
Last season we saw the clichés and banter from votes develop nicely, one league update story generated 99 comments alone – See comments here.
From the enthusiasm of fans and creativity of the comments we started also awarding points for banter and or clichés in comments.
The voting is simple, any fan just needs to go to the comments section at the bottom of any HandCNews Football Pie League story page, and post a vote.
The Points System
- A home vote is awarded 1 Point
- An away vote is awarded 5 points
- A cliché and or Banter in the comment is awarded 3 points to voter’s home team
The league table is then published and updated each week – last season’s end of league table can be seen at the bottom of this article.
The league is close to the heart of football fans as is demonstrated by independent fan websites and media including the BBC.
The league benefits football clubs and their supplier’s as quoted perfectly by the Head of Hospitality at last season’s winners…“Through the fans support that we have been able to expand the sales of the ‘Portman Pie” – Mike Rieder, Ipswich Town.
The league also benefits sponsors and Alistair Morrell from Pig in a Poke wines was only too happy say…“Sponsoring the HandCNews Football Pie League has opened football doors for us that are now offering fans a Pig’n a Pie as well as a pint and a pie. We look forward to the season ahead.”
We look forward to having even more fun with the league this season, so as the chairperson of last season’s winners noisy neighbours would say…Come On, Let’s be Aving Ya, get voting.
