Adrian Ellis, a hotel executive with 24 years’ experience of managing luxury international properties in the UK, Europe and Asia, has been appointed General Manager of the five star, The Lowry Hotel, Manchester.
Mr Ellis, aged 51, is returning to Manchester for the first time since 1999 where he was previously the General Manager of the Manchester Marriott V&A which was formerly known as the Victoria and Albert Hotel. Since then he has enjoyed a successful career managing prestige hotels worldwide.
He joins The Lowry Hotel from his role as General Manager of the 318-bedroom Fairmont Baku Hotel in Azerbaijan where he spent more than three years initially responsible for pre-opening operations of the iconic hotel which forms part of the prestigious Flame Towers complex.
Prior to his position in Baku, Mr Ellis was General Manager at Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal in Budapest, Hungary, Le Royal Meridien Bristol in Warsaw, Poland, Le Meridien Changi, Singapore, Manchester V&A and Dunston Hall Hotel, Norwich
In all of the hotels he managed he achieved exemplary standards of customer service, greatly increased levels of employee satisfaction, delivered strong commercial returns and was the recipient of numerous awards.
Mr Ellis, who hails from Norwich, was named one of the top hoteliers in the world by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences in 2008 and won an Acorn Award in 1993 as one of the top 30 hoteliers under the age of 30 in the UK.
He succeeds Peter Kienast who is leaving The Lowry Hotel after five years to become general manager of Rocco Forte’s Hotel de Rome in Berlin.

The five-star Lowry Hotel in Chapel Wharf, Manchester was acquired by Westmont Hospitality Group and its investment partner Mount Kellett Capital Management for an undisclosed sum in September 2014.
The hotel – which opened in 2001and has 158 rooms and seven suites – remains part of the Leading Hotels of the World Collection.
