Candice Brown, winner of Great British Bake Off is honing her whipping and whisking skills as she prepares to challenge MP’s and Apprentices at the forthcoming Pub & Bar Careers Apprenticeship Week event.
Candice, who was brought up in a pub and shot to fame taking the title in the 7th series of the popular TV show where her talented creations included a show-stopping gingerbread pub, will take to the stage demonstrating her techniques as she adds some flair and fun to the event.
“Having spent my early years growing up in a pub I have seen first hand the great opportunities hospitality presents. My parents ran several thriving, successful pubs in which I learnt many practical and social skills. My love for cooking was inspired and nurtured by my nan and has now led me on a career path I had never dreamed of. To see young people starting their career journey in such a diverse sector which gives them the chance to take unconventional routes to pursue their passion is a great opportunity and I look forward to meeting our innovators and future leaders at this stimulating event, said Candice.
Over 120 young apprentices from employers including Stonegate Pub Company, Fullers, Mitchells & Butlers, Greene King, Everards, Beds & Bars, the Casual Dining Group, Deltic, The Coaching Inn Group, Butcombe Brewery and associations including SIBA, BBPA, BII, ALMR along with training companies HIT and Remit Training will meet with Ministers, MP’s from their constituencies, the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group, the All Party Parliamentary Group for Skills and Employment and the All Party Parliamentary Group for Youth Employment.
“We have had a fantastic response this year” said Keith Knowles, Chair of the Perceptions Group who organise the event. “Over 70 MP’s have already registered their attendance and this year we have an increase in the number of parents attending as well as good representation from the education sector. We still have a long way to go in educating those who regulate our sector as to the huge contribution hospitality makes to the economy of this country. We also need to further improve our relationship with the education sector as we are set to grow by 4.3% creating 19,000 more jobs by 2020. We need to be on the careers agenda as a first choice with the generations to come.”
The event takes place on Tuesday 6th March at the House of Commons during National Apprenticeship Week.
