M Restaurants, recent winner of Best London Bar & Grill in the LUX 2017 Restaurant Awards, is delighted to announce that it will be the first UK restaurant to offer 100% Full-blood Highland Wagyu on its menu. This most tender, succulent and prized of all meats will make its debut at M Bar & Grill, M founder Martin Williams’ much anticipated micro version of his pioneering concept that will open in Twickenham at the end of July.
Although Highland Wagyu has appeared on UK menus before, this has been cross-bred meat, as opposed to 100% Full-blood – known throughout the world as the caviar of meat.
A massive coup for M and one that should delight the residents of south west London and beyond, the beef is reared by Mohsin Altajir and Martine Chapman on their 25,000 acre estate in Perthshire, Scotland, the largest producer of Full-blood Wagyu in the UK. Here they handfeed their full-blood Wagyu for up to 36 months with seaweed and Omega three, to create the exceptional marbling which in turn gives the meat its buttery, sweet and succulent texture.
M Bar & Grill will open in Brewery Wharf, the stunning new luxury residential and cultural development located in the heart of Twickenham.
Williams was able to bring forward the opening date of his latest project after he hit his crowdfunding target of £1.8m in just a matter of days at the end of last year.
The 150 cover M Bar & Grill Twickenham will house a bar specialising in wine by the tap, quirky cocktails and a menu of both healthy and indulgent bar food.
The riverside grill meanwhile will offer a Modern British menu, taking advantage of M’s partnership with Highland Wagyu and other UK suppliers.
The new restaurant will be a short walk from the world famous Twickenham Stadium, reflecting M’s strong ties with the rugby community (former England player Simon Shaw MBE was one of those who took part in the crowdfunding scheme.)
Said Williams, who co-created the new concept with his executive chef Michael Reid, “I first started to develop the idea after the referendum result. It became evident that more and more people would be looking to stay local at the weekends rather than travel into London.
“Twickenham residents and local businesses will thus be able to enjoy the M experience but without a lengthy commute. Although M Bar & Grill will be more casual than either M Threadneedle St or M Victoria, it will continue our award-winning tradition of offering the best quality steak and wine, in stylish but relaxed surroundings. The fact that it will also be the first restaurant in the UK to offer 100% Full-blood Highland Wagyu is the icing on the cake.”
Added Michael, “Our two incredible, multi-award winning international grill restaurants are now firmly established in central London, so it now feels like the right time and location to create a truly modern British grill.”
