A future generation of shoe designers kick started their designer dreams yesterday as The Strand Palace Hotel hosted a one off workshop with renowned shoe creator Lucy Choi in partnership with Kids Week and hit West End Musical Kinky Boots.
As the niece of the legendary Jimmy Choo, Lucy Choi is an up and coming designer in her own right and has taken London by storm, ushering in the next generation of luxury footwear without the designer price tag. The Lucy Choi London collection is expertly crafted without compromising on Lucy’s 3 Cs: comfort, craftsmanship and character. Her diverse collections come in an array of colour combinations and styles, with mid and high heels, boots, wedges, sandals and flats for all occasions, every shoe with its own unique wow factor! A special event yesterday lunchtime saw Lucy impart her expert knowledge, giving her own take on the perfect ‘Kinky Boot’ in front of 30 lucky children.
The Kinky Boots design workshop took place in a private event space at the Strand Palace Hotel on Wednesday 24th August over lunchtime. The two-hour interactive session preceded a matinée performance of the hit musical and allowed budding young shoe designers the chance to design their very own pair of ‘Kinky Boots’ under the watchful eye of the talented Choo dynasty.
Located in the heart of Theatreland, Kinky Boots is currently enjoying a multi- award winning run at the Adelphi Theatre was one of 35 shows to sign up to this year’s Kids Week initiative. Encouraging young people to experience the magic of live theatre with a range of free activities and events lined up during the school holidays in August, Kids Week is in it’s 19th consecutive year and is organised by not-for-profit organisation The Society of London Theatre (SOLT).
The Strand Palace Hotel is situated just a stone’s throw from the theatre itself and was therefore well place to offer families an exclusive pre-show treat.
The hotel’s lower ground floor event space was specially kitted out for the occasion to accommodate Lucy and her 30 young shoe designer protégés. An exclusive menu of mini hot-dogs and beef burgers, popcorn machine, bright red inspired strawberry trifle shots, raspberry and chocolate brownies and a home-made ‘Kinky Boots’ inspired cake was specially created by the hotel’s Executive Chef team to provide designers sustenance throughout the session.
Speaking about the event, General Manager of The Strand Palace Hotel David MacRae said, “It’s wonderful to have Lucy here with us today. The hotel is situated just a couple of doors down from the Adelphi Theatre and we already have a great connection with Kinky Boots so jumped at the chance to be involved. Lucy’s hard work proves you can achieve your goals and we look forward to celebrating the successes of a new generation of shoe designers as a result of today’s activities!”
