Bill’s Restaurants has partnered with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, to support its activity in highlighting the role of bees in pollinating the planet. The Hive, a multi-award-winning installation which towers 17 metres high and twists out of the ground in a shape suggestive of a swarm of bees, is the centrepiece of Kew’s campaign, and this summer visitors will be able to enjoy a limited-edition honey-themed cocktail – the Bee’s Knees – at a pop-up Bill’s Cocktail Bar during the much anticipated Hive Lates.
The Bee’s Knees is a honey cocktail blended especially for the partnership with The Hive, featuring Bill’s very own London Dry Gin – launched earlier this month – along with honey and lemon juice, and topped with Bill’s pink lemonade. The cocktail is also available in Bill’s 74 restaurants, as part of the new summer menu, with a donation of 25p from each sale going to Kew Science. To further support the campaign, a specials menu featuring honey-inspired dishes – such as pan-fried halloumi salad with roasted honey peaches and marinated chicken with peach and honey salsa – will run in the restaurants from 23rd June to 27th July.
The restaurant group is keen to support Kew Gardens’ summer campaign in highlighting the role of bees and other pollinators in feeding the world. Founder Bill Collison said “Growing up on a fruit and vegetable farm I realised from an early age just how vital bees are as pollinators of food crops and for producing honey. So much of our food chain can be connected back to bees, so for us this project was a no-brainer. We are hugely honoured to be partnering with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew to spread the word about this must-see installation and the important messages behind it all.”
The beehive-inspired structure opened to the public on 18th June, having previously been created as the centrepiece for the UK Pavilion at the World Expo 2015 by British artist Wolfgang Buttress. It aims to reconnect guests with nature this summer, by linking visitors to a living beehive through sensors.
