KIBOU Japanese Kitchen and Bar has opened its seventh restaurant at 61-63 Temple Row in Birmingham’s Colmore Business District.

Facing Cathedral Square, the restaurant accommodates more than 200 guests and is open seven days a week, with late-night opening until midnight on Thursdays and 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.
The opening follows a launch party held on Friday 9 October.
The interiors have been designed by Q&A Interior Design Ltd, with digital animations and hand-painted murals created by Gloucestershire illustrator Martyna Sabadasz.
Japanese design references throughout the venue include block-print upholstery and neon kanji signs.
The basement combines further digital artwork with booths and informal seating, while the ground floor includes a large open bar, exposed sushi counter and open kitchen.
Both reservations and walk-in dining are available.
A private dining room can accommodate up to 18 guests, while the basement can be hired exclusively on selected days for events of up to 60 people.
Two kitchens support the restaurant’s Japanese menu, which combines traditional and contemporary dishes.
Small plates include chicken karaage, takoyaki and pork gyoza, alongside ramen, katsu curries and teriyaki dishes.
The menu also features A5-grade wagyu alongside sushi, sashimi and tataki, including KIBOU’s Volcano Roll.
The drinks offer includes Japanese-inspired cocktails alongside whiskies, beers and spirits.
KIBOU Birmingham joins existing restaurants in Cambridge, Cheltenham, Battersea, Clifton, Solihull and Oxford.
A further KIBOU restaurant is scheduled to open in London’s Covent Garden in 2027.
Gemma Hutchinson, Senior General Manager at KIBOU, expressed her excitement about the opening: “Birmingham has been a long time coming for KIBOU as a whole, and marks a real step change for the company. We looked for a long time to find the right venue, and Temple Row suits us perfectly. Since moving in, we have loved getting to know the area, and have been bowled over by the warm response to the opening. Our opening party was a great opportunity to show off the space and kick-start our further adventures in the West Midlands. Thank you to everyone who has supported this opening, we can’t wait to welcome our new guests through the doors.”
Head Chef Pritam Majumder adds: “We have a great kitchen team here in Birmingham who have already gelled together perfectly and are eager to get going. Having two kitchens gives us the freedom to offer a really diverse Japanese menu, from the classics our guests know and love to something a little more special. We are loving the feedback we have had on the dishes so far.”
