Gopal’s Corner is to open its first restaurant outside London at Birmingham’s Bullring on 12 October.
The opening will become the Malaysian Tamil restaurant brand’s seventh location and marks the beginning of its expansion beyond the capital.
Founded by Sugen Gopal, Gopal’s Corner has developed its menu around Malaysian Tamil cooking, with hand-stretched roti forming the centre of the offer.
The team prepares between 400 and 500 rotis each day, with each cooked to order.
Menu dishes include Roti Canai and Mee Goreng Mamak, combining stir-fried egg noodles with egg, prawns, tofu and peanuts.
The offer also includes Spinach and Cheese Murtabak alongside vegetarian and vegan dishes such as Thosai, a savoury pancake served with masala and chutneys, and Banana Leaf Rice and Curry.
Sweet roti options include Planta with condensed milk and Pisang filled with banana.
The drinks menu includes Teh Tarik, the Malaysian pulled tea, alongside Iced Milo.
Gopal launched the restaurant brand with Chhong Sherpa, who is also behind made-to-order sushi operator IRO Sushi.

“We’re looking forward to bringing the flavours of Malaysian Tamil cuisine to a new city, and contributing to the melting pot of cultures in Birmingham.”
The Bullring opening forms part of the brand’s next stage of growth as it begins to establish a presence outside London.
