Sticks’n’Sushi to Open First Stockholm Restaurant as Swedish Expansion Begins

July 16, 2026

Sticks’n’Sushi will open its first Swedish restaurant in Stockholm in spring 2027.

The opening marks the next stage in the Danish-Japanese restaurant group’s European expansion, alongside its upcoming market entry into the Czech Republic.

The 166-cover restaurant will be located at Grev Turegatan 6 and will include a 16-cover private dining room for dinners, celebrations and group bookings.

The opening will also create 60 new jobs locally.

The Stockholm site marks the beginning of the group’s ambitions in Sweden, with plans to open three restaurants in the capital before expanding outside the city.

Designed by Swiss-German architects Diener & Diener, the restaurant will reflect the brand’s blend of Scandinavian design and Japanese influence.

The design will be defined by deep-toned timber, sculptural forms and a restrained material palette.

The restaurant has been created to balance intimacy with openness, offering a dining space suited to everyday occasions and larger gatherings, from long lunches and date nights to celebratory dinners.

A large bar will sit at the heart of the restaurant, designed for guests dropping in for drinks alongside Japanese bites.

The menu will feature the brand’s signature sharing dishes of sushi, sashimi, salads and grilled sticks, available à la carte or as set menus.

Popular dishes will include Ebi Bites, featuring tempura shrimp with miso aioli, lime and chilli, alongside the Maki Maki selection of four signature rolls.

Larger sharing experiences will include As Good As It Gets, a premium selection of Sticks’n’Sushi favourites, including sharing plates, build-your-own handrolls, maki and kushiyaki sticks.

From the grill, highlights will include Shōyu Tebasaki, chicken wings marinated in garlic, ginger, tamari and soy.

Other dishes will include Gindara No Miso, miso-glazed black cod, and Aka Ebi, shrimp in gochujang and garlic butter.

The drinks list will include sake, Japanese teas, contemporary cocktails, premium spirits and beer.

This will include the brand’s Japanese Rice Lager, made in collaboration with Danish brewery Mikkeller.

Andreas Karlsson, Group CEO at Sticks’n’Sushi, said: “Stockholm is a natural next step for Sticks’n’Sushi. The city has a strong dining culture and a guest base that understands both quality and design.

“Our ambition is to build a long-term presence in Sweden, with a vision to add a few more restaurants in Stockholm before looking beyond the capital.

“We are also very much looking forward to creating 60 new jobs in Stockholm, and will be starting our recruitment of the team very soon.”

Henry McGovern, Co-founder and Partner at McWin Capital Partners, said: “We’re delighted to see Sticks’n’Sushi take this next step in Sweden following our upcoming expansion to Prague. I see Sweden as a market with a sophisticated restaurant culture and strong potential for the brand.

“For McWin, this new expansion is yet another strong result of us having found the right operating platform for long-term growth conditions.

“Stockholm represents a compelling entry point for Sticks’n’Sushi, and we’re excited about the opportunity to show Sweden what we have to offer.”

Founded in Copenhagen by half-Japanese, half-Danish brothers Jens and Kim Rahbek, alongside Thor Andersen, Sticks’n’Sushi is one of Denmark’s most established restaurant groups.

The group currently operates restaurants in Denmark, Germany and the UK, with the Czech Republic to follow in autumn 2026.
