By Angela Green: Sam’s Kitchen introduced to Chiswick.
West London duo Sam Harrison and Fanny Stocker are bringing their popular Sam’s Kitchen concept to Turnham Green Terrace, Chiswick, this March. Following a successful launch in Hammersmith last year, Sam’s Kitchen has quickly gained a reputation with locals for its elevated take on breakfast and brunch classics.
The new Sam’s Kitchen, on the same site previously occupied by Sam’s Larder, will fully open on Tuesday 2 April. There will be a preview period from Friday 22 March, offering diners a 50% soft opening discount on food each day (other than Monday 25 March and Monday 1 April). To celebrate the launch, the first 50 guests on Tuesday 2 April and Wednesday 3 April will each receive a free dish of Lemon and Ricotta Hotcakes with Poached Yorkshire Rhubarb.
Speaking of the launch, Sam Harrison said: “I couldn’t be more excited to open our second Sam’s Kitchen in Chiswick. I’m often told how much our old regulars from Sam’s Brasserie still miss our breakfasts, and with our first Sam’s Kitchen in Hammersmith proving so popular, it just made sense to bring it back to where it all started for us. Chiswick has lots of great options already, so we’re certainly in good company, but I feel Sam’s Kitchen really stands out with the quality of our offering. I’m delighted to have Head Chef Abbie Hendren on this journey with us, and my hope is that Sam’s Kitchen will become a beloved go-to spot for breakfast and brunch just like Sam’s Brasserie was all those years ago.”
Abbie Hendren’s CV includes La Trompette and The Glasshouse, and she will lead the kitchen with a menu combining comfort food, classic breakfast and brunch items, and new dishes inspired by favoured suppliers.
Typical breakfast dishes include:
- Brixham Crab Crumpet (brown crab butter, poached egg and hollandaise)
- Sam’s Full English (Cacklebean eggs, HG Walter bacon and sausage, black pudding, hash browns, fried slice and house baked beans)
- Hereford Rump Steak, Fried Egg, Chimichurri (sourdough toast)
- Roasted Pineapple, Cardamom Yoghurt, Spiced Oat Granola (root ginger, lime)
- Toasted Banana Bread (with whipped coconut cream, tropical fruits)
- Sweet Potato Rösti, Black Beans and Avocado (confit cherry tomatoes, wilted greens, mojo verde)
Lunch options include:
- Spring Pea and Broad Bean Soup (cheddar palmier, wild garlic pesto)
- Pork Schnitzel (crispy sage, Caesar dressed leaves, anchovy, Cacklebean egg)
- Maple Glazed Heritage Carrots, Whipped Tahini (mixed grains, pomegranate molasses)
- Brindisa Chorizo, Jalapeño and Honey Butter Cornbread (charred corn salsa, mojo verde)
- Fried Haddock Sandwich (toasted brioche bun, sriracha aioli, Thai-style slaw)
Desserts will change frequently, inspired by seasonality and local suppliers, such as the Chiswick House Rhubarb and Frangipane Tart.
The cosy 40-seat café also has a handful of alfresco tables. The informal interior design will take its cues from the Hammersmith original, including leather banquettes, marble counter tops, antique mirrors and tiling. And, in a nod to the former Sam’s Brasserie in Chiswick, a number of works by artist Sir Peter Blake will adorn the walls; these were gifted to Sam by Sir Peter and are the same pieces that were once on display at Sam’s Brasserie.
