Umbrella Training achieves second Princess Royal Training Award

August 19, 2023

Hospitality apprenticeship provider Umbrella Training has won a Princess Royal Training Award for the second time, recognising the organisation’s exceptional commitment to learning and development.

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, President of the City and Guilds of London Institute, approved Umbrella alongside 52 recipients this year, recognising their unwavering dedication to training, outstanding skills development programmes, and positive impact on people.

Since achieving its first award in 2020, the business has evolved with a new leadership structure and enhanced working relationships with its employers.

Umbrella has also continued to adapt its course content, which is reflected in the success of its trainees: 78% of its apprentices achieve a distinction and it has a 100% apprentice pass rate at end point assessment stage.

Princess Anne will present Umbrella with its award at a prestigious ceremony on 23 November 2023.

The organisation will also be able to use the Princess Royal Training Awards 2023 quality mark on its website and marketing collateral for the next three years.

Adele Oxberry, CEO and founder of Umbrella Training, said: “We are ecstatic about receiving this prestigious accolade once again for our Umbrella Colleague Academy.

“Our team are the most important part of our business and year on year investment into our colleagues not only produces amazing results for our apprentices but for our valued business partners as well.

“Our ongoing vision to integrate new technologies into our business and curriculum to increase productivity, retention and positive outcomes means we need to lead the way with our professional development programmes for our team.”

Kirstie Donnelly MBE, Chief Executive of City & Guilds said: “It’s encouraging to see such a diverse range of employers continuing to apply for a Princess Royal Training Award. Despite the obvious challenges in recent years, they have shown unwavering dedication to nurturing their workforce through outstanding training and skills development, resulting in a lasting positive impact.

“As skills shortages and job vacancies rise, investing in training and development can help to increase productivity and harness and retain talent for future growth. Not only is this good for business and the workforce – it is also beneficial for wider society and contributes to thriving local economies. These organisations exemplify the transformative power of investing in people, and we are honoured to celebrate their accomplishments.”
