In years to come… documentary makers will have difficulty convincing people watching programs about the Covid-19 pandemic that the government of the day really was as inept as the facts will demonstrate.
Children will ask: “Mummy, was there really a prime minister who said and did all those silly things like the woman on television said?”
Currently UK residents are unable to enjoy indoor hospitality, as the government has judged the Covid-19 rate of transmission in the UK as prohibitive to do so. The average daily rate of infections in the UK over the past 7 days is 2,616.
There are currently 38 countries on the government’s Red List where travel to and from is prohibited. The country with the world’s highest daily average of new infections, 1 in 4 worldwide, is not on the government’s Red List. India.
India currently is reporting a daily average of 175,910 new Covid-19 infections. That is 6,724% higher than the UK. Yet, people in the UK are allowed to travel to and from India, and people from India can travel to the UK.
As India is not on the Red List people that travel from India to the UK are not required to quarantine in a hotel for 10 days. They are required to self-isolate for 10 days and self-regulate taking two tests.
In recent weeks, a new Indian variant of the Covid-19 virus has been identified in the UK. Officially classified as – B.1.617 – it is the Covid variant responsible for the steep rise of new cases in India.
Public Health England reports 73 new cases of B.1.617 detected in England and four in Scotland.
This new variant has emerged alongside flights from India continuing unabated and arriving at Heathrow throughout the day, every day, passengers can then pass through the airport and go freely as they please.
“Mummy, why were people in the country with the highest number of new cases in the world allowed to visit the UK?
“Wasn’t that more dangerous that having a meal in a restaurant indoors?
“Mummy, what does recidivist mean?”
