Knightsbridge hotel caring for disadvantaged locals

April 27, 2020

The five-star Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge

Chefs at the five-star Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge are making more than 1,500 meals a week for local disadvantaged residents.

Volunteers are delivering the meals to people in sheltered accommodation or those on low incomes.

The volunteers are also delivering from local grocery shops to help people who are unable to go shop through isolating.

Newly-elected council leader Rachael Robathan, who helped serve up some of the first meals on Thursday, said: “The legacy that’s come out of the community support – it’s just been fantastic. People are wanting to give their help to everyone else.”

The Berkeley’s Head Chef Jude Rozario ensured social distancing took place while working. The chef divided kitchen back and front of house staff into teams so if they could operate safely.

GM at the Berkeley, Knut Wylde, said the hotel’s team were keen to help their neighbours during the Covid-19 crisis.

Council leader Rachael Robathan was delighted with the efforts of the team at the Berkeley saying: “It is amazing to see the staff of a five-star hotel kitchen turn their hand to producing hundreds of meals for residents in our sheltered accommodation.

“And hats off to the Berkeley for launching their free meals drive-through for emergency services workers. It is this kind of generous and innovative offer which is helping us to pull through the ordeal of coronavirus as a community.”

Once again, we are delighted to see hospitality in action, showing empathy for those less fortunate than themselves in this difficult time.

The Covid-19 pandemic is also being featured in our Facebook and twitter social media.
