Macdonald Aviemore Resort is celebrating its growing relationship with Thunder in the Glens as it prepares to welcome the 21st event.
Thunder in the Glens was established in 1997 and is the largest Harley-Davidson rally in the UK and Europe. From an initial turnout of 200 participants, 2016 saw more than 4000 take part in the annual event, which provides a significant boost to the local economy and fundraises for a range of organisations each year.
Throughout this year’s event from August 25th to 27th, Macdonald Aviemore Resort will again be a hive of activity including a range of live entertainment – new for this year will be a large outdoor screen which will stream the headline band Bay City Rollers live on Sunday. Tickets for the main music events are on sale at the event, but an outdoor live music stage and performances on the big screen are free and open to everyone. In addition to the Resort’s regular dining locations will be multiple food outlets including a large street food market and outdoor beer, cider and gin tents.
Commenting on the Resort’s relationship with Thunder in the Glens, Macdonald Aviemore Resort Managing Director Ian Peck said: “We have been working in close partnership with event organisers the Dunedin Chapter for 12 years, and we are delighted to have supported this event in becoming the huge success it is today.
“We started to work with the event in 2005 by giving use of our Osprey Arena. Since that time, our collaboration has grown year on year – in addition to all rooms being sold out well in advance of the weekend, all large conference and event areas will be in use and the Resort will also be home to a campsite where we expect around 600 tents this year.”
Rally Co-ordinator George McGuire said: “We fully appreciate the relationship we have built up with the Macdonald Aviemore Resort over the past ten years and more. Without that, the event would not be what it is today.
“The venue and facilities are unique and are instrumental in allowing us to deliver an event which is unsurpassed in the UK.”
