Bellavita Expo – London 2017 There are five days to go until the largest Made-in-Italy food and beverage trade show in the UK. The three-day event, running from June 18 – 20, is attracting thousands of buyers, and showcases over a thousand food and drink products from hundreds of artisanal producers. These discoveries take you on a unique journey celebrating the regional trends, cuisines and people of Italian gastronomy, capturing the essence of the Italian mercato.
This year, Bellavita is looking forward and championing the pioneers within Italy who are fusing tradition and modernity to create innovative products and techniques.
WHAT TO EXPECT…
Chef Academy
Bellavita Expo’s highly successful Chef Academy has attracted more top names in the hospitality industry than ever before, with world-famous chefs partnering with this year’s Expo. Leading the line-up of chefs will be Francesco Mazzei, Giorgio Locatelli and Theo Randall, all renowned in their industry for creating Michelin-starred Italian food. Some of the chefs will be demonstrating at Bellavita Expo’s Chef Academy, including Michelin-starred Chef Niko Romito, one half of three Michelin-Starred Reale in Abruzzo, Italy, and participating in an industry-led set of exciting roundtable discussions which will introduce guests to new trends in Italian cuisine. Other chefs to look out for are Terry Giacomello of one Michelin-Starred Ristorante Inkiostro, Claudio Sadler (2 Michelin-starred restaurant Sadler in Milan), Felice Lo Basso (1 Michelin-starred Felix Lo Basso in Milan), Davide Degiovanni (Gordon Ramsay’s Union Street Café in London), and world number two Chef Massimo Bottura, who will be commenting on upcoming trends in Italian food ahead of the Expo in June.

Bellavita Best UK Sommelier 2017, Villa Sandi Award
Also at the Bellavita Expo, the live finals of the UK Sommelier Association’s (UKSA/AIS) The Bellavita Best UK Sommelier 2017, Villa Sandi Award organised by UKSA and ISA will be held on Tuesday 20 June, culminating in the announcement of the UK’s Best Sommelier. An award that pays homage to the style and elegance of this artistic and passion fuelled profession, has been designed to celebrate the wine professionals within the hospitality industry.
The live finals will be held within the Wine Academy at the Bellavita Expo taking place on the final day of the Expo. After a round of heats judged by expert panels, the final stage of the competition will see the competitors put to the test with written, oral, and food and wine pairing challenges. This last step of the competition will be judged by a panel of three experts who will pose as guests of the Sommeliers. This year’s judging panel for the final stage of the competition will include Master of Wine David Bird and Master of Wine Peter McCombie.
2018/19 Italian Food Trends
Food trends are a bigger focus than ever at this year’s Expo, where Bellavita will bring something very special for their visitors to take away from the show. Bellavita has created the first-ever extensive 2018/19 Italian Food Trends report shared only with those attending the event. For those looking to spot the next big thing in Italian cuisine, this is an unmissable opportunity to gain a fascinating insight into the future of Italian food. The in-depth 194 page report, focusing on UK/USA trends, will be prepared by leading trends agency The Food People who have an extensive list of retail, food production and hospitality clients including the Casual Dining Group, Waitrose, Tesco and Marks and Spencer.
FOODSCAPE
The show will be tantalising the taste buds of their guests with a completely unique food installation, FOODSCAPE, created by food artist Jacopo Sarzi. Guests will be taken on a culinary journey through Italy with a display taking inspiration from Harry’s Table pop-up restaurant, showcasing a range of stunning Italian charcuterie. Never before seen at an expo, the interactive installation will depict the modern-day Italian landscape, made from both natural and edible materials, enhancing the natural qualities of the produce by recreating the landscape from which they have been sourced.
BAR ACADEMY
Debuting at London 2017, Bellavita are excited to announce the launch of the Bellavita Bar Academy, a new area completely dedicated to the fascinating world of mixology and cocktails – showcasing creative and innovative beverages that project the spirit of Italy. Leading mixologists and bartenders will be creating and demonstrating their work live in the area, providing the optimum chance for professionals to taste their amazing and highly innovative creations for the first time! For this fantastic launch show, Bellavita will be welcoming some of best mixologists of cutting-edge cocktail bars across London, including Paolo Viola, Head Barman at Ritorno and Alberto Aldave, Mixologist at The Ritz, who are looking forward to presenting their bespoke masterpieces.
Drawing inspiration from the Exhibition, they will use traditional and iconic Italian ingredients that can be found in the main show, including Villa Sandi, leader producer of premium prosecco, Branca, Birrificio Angelo Poretti and Fabbri, alongside a medley of delicious spices, nuances and flavourings from all over Italy to provide new and exciting tastes and experiences. Other participants will include Antonio Del Monte, Clubs Manager at London’s hottest new opening this year – The Ned, and Matyas Barta, Bar Manager of Pollen Street Social.
