Polaris Plastics is bringing a radical new refuse sack dispensing system to market in May. This is not a market known for innovation and generally customers don’t expect innovation. Instead for over 30 years facilities managers have coped with the mess that’s inevitable as refuse sacks slip and slide around, however careful the individual who’s handling them.
Polaris Plastics is changing this, with the launch of eSack™. So how did the company innovate this new product? How did it approach the challenge of tackling a problem end users have been dealing with for years?
Paul Wilkes, Business Development Director of Polaris Plastics, explained: “For far too long facilities managers have had to cope with the inevitable mess of refuse sacks spewing out of the box. We wanted to solve this problem for them.”
Necessity drives invention. But without doing the proper ground work there is a risk the new products or services won’t address the real problems.
“Our first goal was to really get under the skin of the end users of these products,” continued Paul. “We wanted to understand the pressures and demands they faced, in particular how, where and when they used refuse sacks.
“Distributors told us that refuse sacks are a necessity and have seen little or no change. Anything that increases efficiency and reduces mess would certainly be of interest.”
“The end users are the real experts. They know how the products are used; what works, as well as the pros and cons of current sacks in use.
“But even they might not reveal everything. It’s easy to overlook things, forget them or not see them as important if they are part of the day-to-day.
“Committing the time to see for ourselves how the products are used gave us an incredibly valuable insight.”
Polaris Plastics found out its customers wanted:
- No more mess: traditional flat packed sacks are folded layered in a cardboard box and as each new one is taken out those left behind get disrupted, inevitably falling out of the box as they slip and slide around. It’s messy, inefficient and potentially wasteful.
- Access to the sacks quickly and easily, with no trekking backwards and forwards to the storage cupboard.
- Sacks that are fit for purpose, with no leakage.
- Sacks in commons sizes, black or clear, so they can continue with their current recycling regimes or instigate new ones.
- Environmentally friendly sacks.
Polaris Plastics turned the insights it gained into the specification for its new eSack™ dispensing system.
Available as either a wall mounted fixed dispenser or a portable integrated dispenser, the eSack™ range makes it possible to ‘dispense with the mess’. The CHSA Accredited sacks are in large capacity rolls that can be quickly and easily be inserted into the two dispensers. They are non-gusseted and leak proof.
As well as being a hygienic and efficient system, eSack™ has strong environmental credentials. The sacks are made from 100% recycled polythene and the packaging of the portable dispensing systems from 100% recycled cardboard.
eSack™ is available in a range of CHSA weights and colours, ensuring there is an option to suit multiple applications.
The new eSack™ range is fully supported by Polaris Plastics’ unequivocal commitment to first class customer service. Its stated objective is “to consistently exceed the expectations our customers have of us”.
It is a founder member of the Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers’ Association’s Manufacturing Standards Accreditation Scheme for Plastic Refuse Sacks, and as such its products are independently tested to CHSA standards and audited on a regular basis.
