KP of the year: £10,000 in prizes up for grabs!

July 11, 2014

KP of the yearWhat makes a great KP? Winterhalter is looking for the Kitchen Porter of the Year and for 2014 there are £10,000-worth of prizes up for grabs. The winning KP gets £1,000 cash and a celebratory dinner for up to 12 guests, while his venue’s kitchen gets a new Winterhalter warewasher, worth over £8,000.

Top chefs are supporting the competition. Marcus Wareing says, “We all know that the KP is probably one of the most important people in the kitchen and sometimes they get overlooked. I think it is great that they’re getting recognised in the industry with the KP of the Year Award.”

Simon Young, executive chef Jumeirah Carlton Towers Hotel, London, nominated last year’s KP of the Year, Bartek Malek. Simon says: “This competition is such a great initiative. Head chefs should take a look at their team. Have you got a superstar? If you value them, put them forward!”

The competition is open to entrants from every sector of the hospitality industry – restaurants, schools, contract catering, hotels, hospitals, pubs… Entering is simple and can be done online. Go to www.kpoftheyear.com and click through to the entry form. The deadline is Friday 1st August.

To commemorate their victory, the winning KP’s celebratory dinner will be for up to 12 people in a causal dining restaurant of their choice.

The winner’s kitchen gets a prize, too, in the shape of one of Winterhalter’s new DeMatik ‘greener and cleaner’ undercounter warewashers, worth £8,000.

Winterhalter can be contacted on 01908 359000. For more information on the company see www.winterhalter.co.uk, or www.winterhalter-scout.biz or email info@winterhalter.co.uk.
