Chelsea bistro and bar The Henry Root has appointed new Head Chef, Rowen Babe. Joining the team from New Zealand, Chef Babe brings with him a new casual all-day café culture style of dining from breakfast right through to dinner.
Convivial, friendly neighbourhood bar and bistro
Chef Babe’s approach is to create a more convivial, friendly neighbourhood bar and bistro. His menus are fresh and accessible serving Modern European food with many international influences. He will explore bold and enticing antipodean flavours of New Zealand, Australia and South East Asia inspired by the ‘Pacific rim’ region. Middle Eastern ingredients such as zaatar, sumac and pomegranate molasses are also present in his recipes. The menu will change daily according to the markets remaining focused on seasonal produce always from artisan suppliers and of sustainable sources.
Babe joins The Henry Root following his role as Head Chef at Postbank, Mount Mungnui Beach restaurant in New Zealand. Prior to this, Babe was Head Chef at Avon Gorge Hotel, Bristol (3 AA Rosettes) and Head Chef at The Manor, Kigali in Rwanda.
In the evening The Henry Root transforms into a lively and sociable night-time drinking spot – ideal for post work drinks with friends, quick bites or long and relaxing wholesome dinners.
The Henry Root is in the hands of Truffle Hunting – the young and dynamic restaurant group behind Newman Street Tavern and Princess Victoria.
Truffle Hunting is run by a trio of seasoned industry professionals, Nigel Sutcliffe, Jerome Armit and James Maclean, who recognise London diners’ ongoing demand for honest, straightforward food and drink that puts quality first. With Princess Victoria, they aim to address the needs of the local creative community throughout the day and night, serving a light, seasonal menu with plenty of daily specials and celebrating local produce from artisan suppliers.
Open since 2011, The Henry Root is a neighbourhood bistro nestled between the Fulham Road and Kings Road. It is open weekdays 10am-10.30pm, Saturday 9.30am-10.30pm and Sunday 9.30am-9pm. The name Henry Root, is taken from the street on which William Donaldson lived, famed author of the Henry Root Letters, which epitomised Chelsea in the swinging 60’s.
