Leading appliances manufacturer Electrolux will nurture the next generation of Michelin star chefs in a nationwide competition that will provide the ultimate work experience opportunity.
Nominate third year students
Electrolux Chef Academy 2013 is inviting culinary colleges around the UK to nominate their most promising third year students for a place on a 12 month paid programme in some of the country’s top Michelin star restaurants.
Working under the watchful eye of renowned chefs Tom Kitchin, Simon Hulstone and Jonray and Peter Sanchez-Iglesias, the young graduate chefs will spend four months in each restaurant to help them develop their skills and set them on their future career path.
Application process
Following an initial application process, selected chefs will be put through their paces in a semi-final with Tom Kitchin, Simon Hulstone, Jonray and Peter, and guest mentor Nigel Haworth, to decide who has the determination, personality as well as ability to work in a high pressured kitchen.
Winning chefs will not only receive the work placement of a lifetime but will also be invited to attend Taste of London, cooking on stage in front of a live audience.
The Electrolux Academy judging panel will comprise:
- Michelin Star Chef Nigel Haworth
- Andy Blakemore, Development Chef, Electrolux Professional
- Martin Bates, CEO Craft Guild of Chefs
Electrolux support for next generation of chefs
Vanessa Holloway, Electrolux Trade Marketing Manager for Electrolux, said: “Electrolux has been proudly supporting professional kitchens for nearly a century, with almost 50% of Michelin star restaurants in Europe using our appliances. It therefore seemed a natural step to support the next generation of chefs at an even earlier stage.
“Through our partnerships with incredibly talented chefs, we’re extremely well placed to establish the Chef Academy programme, giving young chefs a fantastic insight into a highly competitive yet exhilarating industry”.
Electrolux also gives thanks to Westminster Kingsway College, host of the press event and the final cook-off event, in their Escoffier restaurant, named after Auguste Escoffier, (world famous chef de cuisine from the Ritz Carlton and Savoy hotels) and established in 1910 as the first professional cookery school in the United Kingdom.
Work experience is essential
Westminster Kingsway College, Assistant Principal, Geoff Booth commented: “Gaining valuable work experience is essential to all culinary students in helping them to realise their ambitions after leaving college. The Electrolux initiative is an exceptional opportunity and presents a unique and innovative way of recognising exceptional talent. This competition provides an incredible opportunity for a small number of outstanding students. It will undoubtedly also help to inspire countless others across the hospitality sector.”
