London’s St Katharine Docks to transform

August 31, 2012

Davis Coffer Lyons has been instructed by Max Property Group to help transform St Katharine Docks central marina, next to London’s Tower Bridge, into a food and drink-led leisure destination.

DCL has been appointed to source a range of innovative, independent food concepts for the scheme’s Ivory House, as well as tenants for two larger A3 units, plus a 20,000 sq ft health and fitness operator at Commodity Quay.

Max Property is investing £20million to transform St Katharine Docks, managed by Max’s external managers Prestbury Investments, into a weekend and evening destination for the London community and visitors. Prestbury has already won 16 separate planning applications from Tower Hamlets Council to carry out development work at the scheme.

In the longer-term, it is intended for DCL to source five or six bar/restaurant concepts elsewhere on the development, which will play on the unique selling point of its marina environment.

Completion for the strategy is expected by September 2013, but with many of the food and beverage units available prior to that time.

Currently the estate comprises 250 flats, 450,000 sq ft of offices and 50,000 sq ft of restaurants and shops.

Josh Leon, Associate Director at Davis Coffer Lyons, said:

“St Katharine Docks has always had great potential but so far in its lifetime this potential hasn’t been realised. Prestbury are securing very interesting new office tenants for the scheme and together with the planned improvements it is becoming one of the best office schemes in the city. We want to extend that into the leisure offer, creating a dramatic sense of theatre using the unique marina setting and bringing in some glamorous and atmospheric restaurants and bars.”
