Acting on behalf of Smash Foods Ltd, Christie + Co has sold the leasehold interest of the S&M Café within the O2 in Greenwich for an undisclosed sum. National operator The Restaurant Group (TRG), which operates the Frankie & Benny’s, Garfunkel’s and Chiquito brands, has taken on the site.
Occupying a corner site on the ground floor of a purpose-built unit within the main dome structure, the S&M unit currently comprises a 200-cover restaurant and external seating on two sides for up to 80 people, overlooking a central plaza.
Christie + Co was instructed to market the S&M Café business in May this year. Founded in 2002, the sausage and mash casual dining group operated restaurants in Islington, Leadenhall Market, Portobello Road, Smithfield, Spitalfields, and within the O2 in Greenwich.
The leasehold interest of the S&M Café site in Leadenhall Market was sold to Tortilla, the Mexican fast-casual dining chain, in August. Christie + Co has deals agreed on the four remaining sites that made the S&M chain.
Simon Chaplin, Director at Christie + Co, said: “The sale of the O2 site to TRG and the Leadenhall Market unit to Tortilla demonstrates that there continues to be a clear willingness to buy realistically-priced, well-presented businesses in good trading locations. The S&M package and the non-core assets we have been marketing on behalf of Paramount Restaurants have both generated significant levels of interest from established and up-and-coming operators who are actively pursuing opportunities across the sector.”
