CEDA Conference donates £4,500 to St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust, Renal Medicine Unit
For the first time both The Foodservice Consultants Society International (FCSI UK & Ireland) and CEDABOND partnered with CEDA, the Catering Equipment Distributors Association, to host the largest and most influential forum for the catering industry – the CEDA Conference 2010.
The Chairman’s Charity Auction, for goods and services donated by catering equipment suppliers, raised more than £9000, the proceeds being split equally between two charities.
FCSI Chairman, Jonathan Doughty, supported Macmillan Cancer Support, while CEDA Chairman Peter Kitchin chose St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust, Renal Medicine Unit as CEDA’s nominated charity for 2010, following the inspirational story of father and son Ray and Stuart Coombe.
Ray’s company looks after the PR & Marketing for CEDA. Ray’s son Stuart had suffered complete kidney failure and required a transplant. Ray immediately volunteered to be the donor and both operations were successfully carried out at St George’s Renal Medicine Unit, Tooting, London.
Ray recovered quickly, but Stuart suffered complications, which were only overcome by the skill and dedication of the team at St George’s. Stuart is now back to full health, enjoying life and study at the University of Manchester.
Three of the UK’s most influential catering industry organisations combined forces at the
