Acting on behalf Kingdom Entertainment Group, the nightclub and bar operator, Christie + Co is marketing the leasehold interest of The Fridge nightclub in Brixton, South London.
Kingdom Entertainment Group had acquired the nightclub out of administration in April, but has now decided to place it back on the market in order to concentrate on another business opportunity that has unexpectedly arisen in a separate sector.
The leasehold interest of The Fridge is available at nil premium, with rental offers in excess of £300,000 sought.
Originally founded by Andrew Czezowski and Susan Carrington, The Fridge nightclub initially started in 1981 in a small club at 390 Brixton Lane. In 1985, as a result of increased popularity, the club moved to its current location; a converted 1913 cinema (The Palladium Picture House) on the Town Hall Parade.
The nightclub, which currently has a capacity for up to 1,700 people split across two main rooms, was at the heart of the early 1980s New Romantic movement. Since then The Fridge, which is London’s largest independently owned nightclub and one of its longest running, has hosted a variety of club nights, including Love Muscle — one of the major gay club nights in the capital — plus live music events.
Barry Fitzgerald from Christie + Co’s London Bars and Restaurants team, said: “The unexpected return of The Fridge to the market offers a fantastic opportunity for a high-quality operator to acquire this well-known venue, which has the potential to become the leading late-night venue in south London.”
