After an involvement with Hedleys Restaurant in Harrogate lasting thirty years, its owner Julie Gardiner, is looking to retire and has instructed Christie + Co’s Leeds Office to offer the business for sale.
Located just a couple of doors down from the iconic Bettys Café and Tea Room, Hedleys has a strong trading position within the fashionable Montpellier Quarter of Harrogate town centre, overlooking Montpellier Gardens. With a real cosmopolitan “feel”, this area of the town is home to a number of exclusive boutiques, specialist shops, cafes and restaurants – as well as being a renowned antiques and art centre with a number of art galleries and antique shops.
Harrogate is a well-known spa town and has an established International Conference and Exhibition Centre. In addition, the town draws a year-round mix of both business people and a large number of tourists and day visitors.
Situated within the Harrogate Conservation Area, Hedleys provides a ground floor bar and bistro (with seating for around 24 and lots of natural wood finishes) and a restaurant on the first floor for around 48 covers, which has two attractive box bay window seating areas with attractive views over the town gardens towards the Stray. In addition, the restaurant has a commercial kitchen together with plenty of storage and back-of-house facilities.
As one of the oldest restaurant businesses in the town, Hedleys attracts lots of regular and return trade from an established customer base, and there is plenty of passing trade as a result of its prominent position in the town centre. The restaurant attracts a mix of private trade together with delegates and business people from the nearby International Conference and Exhibition Centre.
Nicholas Thomas, who is handling the sale from Christie + Co’s Leeds Office, comments: “Hedleys Restaurant offers a marvellous opportunity for new owner operators to develop the existing trade from an established base, and provides an excellent opportunity to purchase a business in a great position in this popular and desirable spa town.”
Hedleys Restaurant is offered for sale with an asking price of £95,000 for the leasehold interest.
