The Truscott Arms has announced the appointment of Head Chef, Aidan McGee. Aidan, formerly at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal and at Launceston Place, under Tim Allen, joins the team at Maida Vale’s best loved pub and will launch his exciting new Autumn/Winter menus at The Truscott Arms from Monday 15 September 2014.
Aidan was born and bred in Donegal, Ireland amidst a magic combination of the family farm with home grown ingredients, animals in abundance and a chef father to top it off. An exacting and pure eye for aesthetics initially drew him to product design; but his attention soon changed to what was on the plates, as he took up the first roles in his culinary career at the McGee Group.
His move to the London kitchen of The Mandarin Oriental began to clarify features of his cooking that were true to his style; with detail and ‘unconfusing’ food at the fore. These have seen him cook in far off places such as Bangkok and return to open new outlets at the Mandarin Oriental including Dinner by Heston Blumenthal – now considered one of the best restaurants in the world.
This experience refined his skills and passion. It was a unique opportunity to invigorate Launceston Place with Tim Allen at the helm that drew him away; a good decision that brought Michelin stars in both 2012 and 2013, and four Rosettes in the 2013-14 AA Guide.
Aidan’s move to Head Chef at The Truscott Arms is a match of great promise. The Truscott Arms, opened in 2013, receiving CATEY’s Best Newcomer nomination in 2014 and a three-star rating from the Sustainable Restaurant Association. Aidan will rightfully seize its reputation for quality and apply his consistency and hunger.
