Football Pie League latest update 16th February 2012 – Full table below
Hello and welcome to this week’s update from The Football Pie League from the league studios here in Ascot. We have a guest this week most of you know and will be hearing from later, but now here are the main headlines…
Manchester United knocked off top spot by Arsenal, backed by the pie faithful at Piebury Corner. Our pie sampling team are busy planning a trip to Piebury Corner as accolades from home and away fans border fever pitch.
Also this week North London witnessed some ugly scenes from the rivalry between Tottenham and Arsenal. Several votes this week had to be taken down when our publisher felt the comments deserved a red card.
Pie League Publisher Denis Sheehan said earlier…’It’s a shame and unnecessary, Arsenal and Spurs both played a good game this week, but a few fans got over excited and let their sides down.
We have only issued a red card and removed the comments so far, but where we see a second offence the culprits will be banned from the league. Hopefully these were isolated incidents and the fans will come back with some point scoring witty banter in the weeks ahead.’
Tottenham move up to second spot and only for the red cards a better points tally would have them closer to Arsenal.
Quite a few new clubs this week have entered the league including Everton, Sunderland and West Ham, Chelsea have climbed to fourth place and also entering the league is Manchester City. The appearance of City backed doubtlessly with Pie resources the other clubs can only dream of will send a message out that clubs do need to get behind their pies now.
Our first guest this week is no stranger to The Pie League and I am glad to welcome ‘a well-known sporting legend’.
Thanks, well what a week it has been, Utd off the top for the first time this season and City enter the league, there is talk of the Manchester clubs fighting it out for another title, not by my reckoning though judging by the reaction of the Piebury Corner Arsenal faithful. A very articulate fan base fuelled by great pies, two ingredients that will serve them well in the weeks ahead.
Also having taken a look through the Piebury Corner menu they would seem to have the best pie line up on paper, although you don’t win the league on paper as we all know.
That’s it from me this week, much going on and making things exciting but as we all know it’s a long season and grinding out results is what it’s all about. We are more than half way through the season but it’s a game of two halves and much still to play for in the Pie League, back to you in the studio.
Thanks ‘a well-known sporting legend’ as always the inside track on everything pie from around the grounds. Well that’s it this week, we’ll be back next week with more news and reports so from The Pie League studios here in Ascot it’s over and out.
