North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College is to open Grayson’s, its new public-facing training restaurant at the Grayson Place campus in Nuneaton, on 13 October.

The 50-seat restaurant will give catering and hospitality students the opportunity to prepare and serve food for members of the public within a live restaurant environment.
Grayson’s includes three kitchens, including an industry-standard facility and a kitchen with a viewing window allowing diners to see students working during service.
The restaurant will offer three-course lunches alongside evening dining, with students using fresh and locally sourced produce where possible.
Grayson’s replaces the college’s previous training restaurant, Glebegate, and has been developed as part of the new Grayson Place campus.
The facilities are intended to provide students with practical experience while supporting the development of hospitality and catering skills within the region.
Marion Plant, OBE FCGI, Principal and Chief Executive at NWSLC, said: “Our restaurant’s new home reflects the level of ambition we have for our students. We are determined to raise the bar and provide our learners with experiences that not only mirror the world of work, but within a setting that represents the very best workplaces.
“Learning and working in a cutting-edge facility like Grayson’s restaurant raises students’ aspirations and is the clearest demonstration of what their future career could look like and the standard to aspire to. It provides a realistic working environment, where students can achieve a nationally recognised qualification and gain essential work experience.
“I encourage anyone living in the area to pay a visit to the restaurant and sample the menu that our students have worked so hard to create – the proof really is in the pudding. I can personally vouch for how mouth-watering their dishes are.”
The opening follows success for NWSLC’s catering students and staff at the UK Young Restaurant Team of the Year competition in July, where the college secured three awards including the overall title.
Grayson’s will open for lunch from Tuesday to Friday between 12pm and 2pm, with Thursday evening service running from 6.45pm until 9.30pm.
Tuesday evening service will also operate between November and March.
The restaurant is located at the Grayson Place campus on Abbey Street.
The wider campus provides programmes for full-time students, apprentices, adult and higher education learners, with more than 20 courses delivered across areas including hospitality and catering, digital skills, ESOL and professional qualifications.
