Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa has unveiled a new stargazing programme designed to offer guests a different perspective on the island experience after dark.

Located at five degrees north of the equator, the resort benefits from a position that allows visitors to observe constellations from both the northern and southern hemispheres beneath some of the Maldives’ clearest skies.
Developed in partnership with local astronomy specialist Space Cat, the programme is led by a resident astronomer and combines telescope observations, educational sessions and astronomy-inspired experiences.
Activities begin during the day with solar observation sessions, where guests can use specialist telescopes to study the sun, learn about sunspots and gain insight into solar activity and its impact on Earth.
During the evening, guided beach stargazing experiences transform the shoreline into an open-air observatory, combining telescope viewing with storytelling about constellations and celestial phenomena visible above the Indian Ocean.
The programme also includes a range of food and beverage experiences inspired by the night sky. These include Celestial Dining, Moonlight Table and Sip Under the Moon events, which combine dining and cocktails with evening sky observation.
Guests can also participate in astronomy masterclasses focused on stargazing, astro-photography and astro-portraiture, while bespoke photography sessions offer opportunities to capture images against the backdrop of the night sky.
Family-focused activities have also been incorporated into the programme through dedicated sessions at The Family Kids Hub. Weekly Space Day events include arts and crafts, workshops and astronomy-themed learning experiences, while children aged six to 15 can participate in guided stargazing sessions designed specifically for younger guests.
The initiative also incorporates sustainability and environmental education through presentations exploring the impact of light pollution on ecosystems and marine environments, while highlighting the importance of preserving natural dark skies.
Located on Thilamaafushi Island in the Lhaviyani Atoll, Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa features 134 beach and overwater villas, six restaurants and bars, an overwater spa, sporting facilities and a hydroponic greenhouse.
The new programme forms part of the resort’s broader focus on creating experiences centred around discovery, wellbeing and connection with the natural environment.
