Much-Loved Carshalton Favourite, The Greyhound, Begins A New Chapter

A slice of the countryside near the city, Carshalton pub with rooms, The Greyhound, has reopened following a thoughtful refurbishment. Overlooking the village’s scenic ponds, the pub has been beautifully transformed inside and out, complete with a new-look garden ready for soaking up the summer rays.

Dating back to 1730, the historic coaching inn has long been woven into village life, with great care taken to build on its legacy, bringing restored original features together with characterful new additions. The refurbishment has seen the expansion of the main dining room and bar area, alongside a refresh of the pub’s charming private dining space, the Swan room – a characterful space complete with a grand fireplace and views across Carshalton Ponds, available for private celebrations and events.

Ready for long lunches, evening drinks and laid-back afternoons in the sun, the pondside pub garden has been given a new lease of life, evoking the British summertime with overflowing floral planters, rich wood tables and festoon lighting. Complete with upgraded bookable huts for group bookings and outdoor screens for catching all the sporting action, the garden is the place to be for the season.

Food remains firmly at the heart of The Greyhound, with Head Chef Roberto Montoli leading a menu centred around elevated British pub classics. Smaller plates and starters range from Brixham Harbour squid and South Coast scallops to nibbles designed for sharing over drinks, before moving onto standout mains including the signature Greyhound beef burger with short rib and brisket; rack of lamb; and bone-in pork chop with burnt apple sauce. Traditional pies rotate with the seasons, while daily blackboard specials showcase fresh fish and market produce.

Sundays are naturally reserved for generous roasts with all the trimmings and lashings of gravy, while behind the bar, well-kept cask ales sit alongside a seasonal spritz menu designed for summer sipping. Expect refreshing serves including a White Sangria and the Raspberry Honeybee, best enjoyed basking as the sun goes down. Overlooking Carshalton Ponds, the Swan Dining Room is also available for private hire, offering an intimate setting for celebrations and special occasions for up to 30 guests.

Upstairs, 21 individually designed bedrooms serve as a year-round countryside-style retreat within easy reach of central London. From comfy rooms for two to roomier boutiques overlooking the ponds, there is space for everyone, with fold-out beds and cots for little ones and a VI-Pup welcome for four-legged pals. Whether a weekday stay or longer getaway, every room comes with complete with uber-comfy beds, workspace, Nespresso machine and overflowing snack baskets and honesty bar, with interiors mirroring the relaxed feel of the pub downstairs.

Just a short walk from Carshalton station, The Greyhound offers direct links into London Victoria while sitting moments from green open spaces and countryside favourites including Box Hill and Epsom Downs. Back at the pub, community remains at the beating heart, from regular fundraising efforts supporting The Royal Marsden to the familiar faces behind the bar – including resident pub dog, Barry.
