The Royal Navy is investigating after documents related to the UK’s most advanced nuclear submarine were apparently discovered in a Wetherspoons pub toilet.
First reports of the incident emerged from the Sun, saying the files were discarded in the Furness Railway pub in Barrow-in-Furness, and apparently found lying on the floor in a toilet.
The files contained details of HMS Anson, one of the navy’s most advanced vessels, but according to a statement from a Royal Navy spokesperson:” These are generic training documents that carry no classified information.”
HMS Anson is a nuclear submarine built at the BAE Systems’ shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness, in Cumbria, nearby to the pub where the documents were found.
The 97m-long 7,800-ton nuclear-powered vessel is the fifth of the new Astute-class attack submarines to join the Royal Navy fleet. Astute-class submarines are the largest, most advanced, and most powerful attack submarines ever operated by the Navy. HMS Anson can circumnavigate the globe without resurfacing.
