You would rightly expect the appointment of a new CEO to lead a trade body to garner interest, yesterday’s announcement of the appointment of Robert Richardson as the new CEO of the Institute of Hospitality did a lot more than that.
Those of us lucky enough to know Richardson well, know his heart belongs to hospitality. More that that though, his heart belongs to those aspiring to join and thrive within hospitality.
For those that do not know Richardson, here’s a selection of his musings on hospitality, all with a sharp focus on people, and how hospitality has a place for people to develop within.
As well as writing on the subject Richardson is also a great spokesperson, when he attended the Hospitality Social Media Roundtable back in October 2019 at Coworth Park, he was already demonstrating his CEO credentials. Telling fellow delegates from across hospitality: “We must embrace social media as the ideal channel to shine a light on what we do best, being hospitable. And to ensure a flow of bright young people continue to carry the torch of hospitality forward.”
The reaction yesterday to Richardson’s appointment was emphatically positive.
On twitter the volume and warmth of messaging showed how popular Richardson is with those that know him. His new appointment will give many more the opportunity to get to know him, and the industry will be all the better off for that.
