A hotelier with more than 20 years’ experience in the hospitality industry has checked into the DoubleTree by Hilton York as its new general manager. Martin Bradnam – who cut his teeth at the 790-bedroom Metropole Hotel in Birmingham overseeing major international conferences and trade shows – is already a familiar figure in the city’s hospitality scene having served as manager of the York Hilton for the last six years.
Prior to his move to North Yorkshire, Martin – who is a key player in the Hospitality Association of York – had worked for the hotel giant in Bath and Bradford.
Martin said: “Taking on the role of general manager at the DoubleTree by Hilton York is a ‘win win’ for me. Not only do I continue my journey with Hilton, I also get to remain in this wonderful city which has become my home as well as place of work.
“Just a few years ago the hotel was a three-star Best Western, but thanks to considerable investment carried out in two phases, it has been elevated to the ranks of a four-star DoubleTree by Hilton hotel.”
Martin added: “Over the last two decades, I have got to know the Hilton brand and way of life incredibly well, beginning in Birmingham where one of the many events I oversaw cost almost £750,000 to stage.
“Bath was a very different proposition to the Midlands, but in many ways it prepared me for my eventual move to York. Both cities are very similar, rich in history, a magnet for UK and international visitors and popular destinations for conferences and events.”
Bradford brought new experiences for Martin, who was there for two-and-a-half years before the position of general manager at the York Hilton became available.
Martin said: “With the DoubleTree by Hilton York I have inherited a fine establishment and a terrific team. I am very much looking forward elevating its status within Hilton and the city of York.”
