Darwin & Wallace, the independent neighbourhood bar group, are thrilled to announce their seventh location, opening this winter in the busy Borough of Ealing, West London. The new location, situated in the vibrant Dickens Yard, will join an impressive list of quintessential village pubs already in the group’s portfolio in Chelsea, Clapham, Richmond, Chiswick, Battersea and Wimbledon. The new site will be a bold and modern space, featuring generous lounge furnishing and dark interior finishes to create the perfect backdrop for relaxed eating and drinking.
Created by artisans of interiors, food and drink, the Darwin & Wallace’s locations are individually designed with a contemporary style, reflecting their local areas and the people that inhabit them, creating a home from home. The Ealing site will feature an all-day, casual drinks and dining experience with a menu of carefully created drinks and cocktails, and seasonal, locally sourced and sustainable food for any time of the day.
Mel Marriott, Darwin & Wallace Managing Director comments, “We have long held the desire to be part of the “London village” that Ealing is. Finding this superbly located, stand alone, building within the Dickens Yard development has given us the most amazing blank canvas on which to layer on our own interpretation of what a modern pub can be, unique to its location.”
Drawing inspiration from both local and global influences, the site’s design will be resonant of an urban, European loft apartment, featuring generous lounge seating, oak sharing tables and huge lamps. Dark wall finishes and poured concrete floors will contrast with lighter, warmer touches in the furnishings, creating a bold, modern space that feels like home. Outside, terraces will be filled with terracotta pots and delicate trees, making the perfect backdrop for relaxed eating and drinking.
Recognised for their design and architecture, Darwin & Wallace are two-time award winners of the Restaurant and Bar Design Awards’ ‘Best Pub’ for No 1a Duke Street in 2016 and No 197 Chiswick Fire Station in 2017 and is shortlisted for the awards this year for No 29 Power Station West.
Darwin & Wallace works with hand-picked local suppliers to create real places with integrity, reflecting in both the design of the space and curation of the seasonal drinks and food menus, shared across the sister locations. The group achieved the coveted three-star award by the Sustainable Restaurant Associationfor their commitment to serving great quality food by celebrating local and seasonal food, sourcing better fish for a healthy ocean, reducing food wastage wherever possible as well as their commitment to local residents and local charities.
Now in their seventh year, the group first opened No 11 Pimlico Road in 2012, followed by No 32 The Old Town in 2014, No 1a Duke Street in Richmond in late 2015, No 197 Chiswick Fire Station opened in April 2016, No 29 Power Station West in Battersea’s Circus West Village in July 2017 and most recently 601 Queen’s Rd in Wimbledon in May this year.
