Omnivore comes to the Old Truman Brewery in October

September 8, 2016

Omnivore comes to the Old Truman Brewery in October 2

Paving the way for ‘Young Cuisine’ since 2003, this October will see Omnivore’s culinary World Tour create waves in East London for the second year running. Taking over the emblematic Old Truman Brewery from 21st to 23rd October, the weekend will champion exceptional young chefs and mixologists as well as rebellious industry stalwarts.

The weekend will comprise a jam-packed schedule of free talks and demonstrations, Omnivorious Party by Badoit, one-off ticketed dinners and a lively artisans and street food market.

Old Truman Brewery will become an ‘Omnivore Family House’ for the weekend, inviting consumers to make themselves at home within the pop-up venue for chefs, bartenders and artisans. Across different levels, the family house includes a lounge area and bar with coffee, beers, spirits and a tasting space. A living room equipped with sofas and comfortable seating will house the master classes, and a ‘terrace-like’ dining room will host pop-up dinners and a communal seating area during the day. Chefs taking ‘residence’ at the house over the course of the weekend will include Nuno Mendes, James Knappett, Tom Aikens, Lee Westcott, Gregory Marchand, Elizabeth Allen and Amandine Chaignot.

Open to all, the festival brings together like-minded individuals to exchange ideas and techniques. The festival gives chefs an arena in which to expand on and explain their own culinary creations, aiming – through a series of dinners and masterclasses – to ‘create motion’ and lead the way in innovation.

Pop-up ticketed dinners will see London’s top chefs collaborate at Old Truman Brewery, five courses with matching wines and beers. Additional collaborative dinners include Timur Abuzyarov and Ed Wilson at Wilson’s critically acclaimed restaurant Brawn, as well as Gregory Marchand and Portland’s Merlin Labron Johnson at Frenchie Covent Garden.

Proving that there’s no such thing as ‘too many chefs’, the festival will peak with the Omnivorious Party on the Saturday night. Bringing the Old Truman Brewery to life, 18 of London’s leading luminaries of food will cook at once. Live music and DJs will provide the backdrop to dishes from restaurants and chefs such as Nuno Mendes, Portland, Black Axe Mangal, Padella, Som Saa, P Franco and Sager + Wilde. Each will create an exclusive ‘bouchée’, accompanied by a stellar array of wines, beers and spirits.

Founded in 2003, Omnivore is an original travelling food festival that has been travelling the globe since 2012. The brainchild of Luc Dubanchet, Omnivore showcases chefs from around the world and explores the boundaries of each local culinary scene. Devouring distances, the festival has been found at groundbreaking gastronomic destinations including New York, Istanbul, Montreal, Moscow and Paris and is a celebration of cutting edge cuisine.
