Situated on Brunswick Square, in the grade II listed Brunswick Centre, the new setting boasts classic mid-century architecture combined with a big dose of South American style; think retro metalwork chandeliers and comfy banquette seating that will accommodate 110 diners and cocktail aficionados throughout the bar and restaurant. The restaurant also benefits from a large and bustling outside piazza, the perfect spot for people watching on lazy summer days or cosying up under the heated parasols with something a little bit spicy when the weather is far from tropical.
Diners at Las Iguanas can expect a new Spring menu bursting with Latin American classics and contemporary cooking, made fresh to order by the team of ‘proper’ chefs. Fish lovers will enjoy new additions Ceviche in tiger’s milk with sweet potato crisps, pan-fried Sea Bass Achiote and a traditional Moqueca de Piexe mild Brazilian curry with coconut and fresh tomato sauce. Ribs take on a Cuban twist with a sticky Havana Club glaze and there is a rainbow of colour in the Fiesta Ensalada with butternut, avocado, roquito peppers and charred corn. It’s sunshine on a plate.
For those with a sweet tooth the desserts are characteristically yummy, from Dulce de Leche Cheesecake to cinnamon dusted Churros. For a lighter end to your meal try the new Mojito Jelly with lemon & lime sorbet.
And then there are the cocktails. In the year that the Olympics hits Rio, sample the taste of Brazil with a Caiprinha or two, made from Las Iguana’s very own cachaça distilled near to the Brazilian capital itself. Enjoy them 2 for 1 as part of the legendary happy hour, now boasting 25 cocktails and coolers to celebrate las Iguanas’ 25th Birthday this year. Or bring plenty of friends and try the sharing cocktails served up in big skulls and kitsch pineapples.
