Responsible Hospitality Partnership (RHP), in conjunction with Fresh Montgomery, is hosting in Scotland its ‘Save and Sustain’ initiative around next month’s ScotHot 2013 – running from 4-6 March at the SECC, Glasgow. Sponsored by SWR and Beacon, the ‘Save and Sustain’ online calculator enables the show’s hospitality industry visitors to calculate how much money and carbon they can save in running their businesses.
The ScotHot website gives owners and managers the chance to try out RHP’s ‘Save and Sustain’ online calculator – designed to help improve their operations, whilst providing multiple opportunities for cost reduction. Not only ScotHot visitors can use the online calculator, it is available to all internet users across the UK by visiting the ScotHot website. Savings can be estimated in four key areas within a hospitality business: water saving, training, waste and LED lighting.
And that’s not all – there will be a prize draw for ScotHot’s ‘Save and Sustain’ online calculator users, with an iPad mini for the lucky winner!
Commenting on the initiative, Dr Rebecca Hawkins – Managing Director at Oxfordshire-based RHP – said:
“Around two-fifths of consumers are swayed by sustainability issues when selecting products and services. So making a sustainable choice can improve your image as well as provide multiple opportunities for cost reduction. With ‘Save and Sustain’, we want to give operators a practical way to calculate the full benefits of sustainability, and especially highlight how much it can add to profitability.
“Our online calculator will help, for example, Scottish hospitality businesses prepare for The Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2012, which include the requirement that food production, food retail or food preparation businesses – producing over 50kg of food waste per week – must separate it for collection by 1 January 2014; whilst those Scottish operations – producing between five and 50kg of food waste per week – must present it for separate collection by 1 January 2016.”
Vanessa Scott, Director and Head Chef of multi-environmental award-winning Strattons Hotel and Restaurant in Swaffham, Norfolk, said:
“I am so pleased to have the availability of a practical online calculator for my business. In the past, it has been a case of taking the readings and then making calculations – often protracted – and checking with consultants to ensure we were on the right track; and then racking our brains on the carbon front!
“This product is the result of RHP appreciating what the industry requires and understanding the challenges to effect savings on carbon and financial budgets. At a difficult trading time, never before has it been so important to look to savings to compete and survive in the hospitality industry. Sustainability really does offer a chance to improve bottom line and this calculator has to be a no-brainer.”
