Last month the Wall Street Journal published an article about American chefs and restaurants on Twitter. The article talks about how chefs and restaurants use Twitter and how Twitter has become a part of the foodie scene.
Europe is seeing a similar development but in no other country have chefs embraced Twitter as much as in the United Kingdom. So time to make a list of who’s on Twitter.
The list I’ve made is not one of those standard ‘who’s on Twitter’ lists, which always seem to mention the same people, such as Gordon Ramsay, Thomas Keller, Rene Redzepi, Ruth Reichl, Jamie Oliver, Mario Batali, David Chang, Grant Achatz et cetera.
This list is a list of all British Michelin starred chefs/restaurants currently on Twitter. Even though I have limited myself to Michelin starred chefs/restaurants it has become quite a substantial list. At the moment Britain has 151 Michelin starred chefs/restaurants and at least two-thirds of them are on Twitter. In cases were the chef doesn’t have a personal Twitter account I have mentioned the restaurant or hotel account, if available.
If chefs/restaurants are not on the list it is because:
- there’s no (traceable) Twitter account;
- there’s no active Twitter account (e.g. River Cafe in London has an account on Twitter but it has never been used);
- there’s no official Twitter account.
I do realise of course that a list like this can never be complete and that it is outdated almost as soon as it is published. So please feel free to leave a comment if I have left someone out. Oh and in case you wonder why Heston Blumenthal or the Fat Duck aren’t on the list: their Twitter accounts are not active.
