The Field Farmshop & Kitchen has officially opened in Flax Bourton, near Bristol, following the transformation of a former village pub into a restaurant, café and farm shop.

The new hospitality venture, developed by husband-and-wife team Mark and Amy Warburton, opened on Thursday 22 October 2026, extending the operations of the family behind Bristol steakhouse brand Cow & Sow.
The venue accommodates up to 70 guests in its restaurant and café, with outdoor seating providing space for a further 40 customers.
Located opposite Cow & Sow’s Kitchen Farm, the development brings together locally grown produce, hospitality and food retail within a site covering almost an acre.
The property was previously known as the Dew Drop Inn and later The Jubilee, having remained closed for more than three years before its redevelopment.
General Manager Chris Williams, formerly of Bristol’s Farro Bakery, oversees the new venue, with Head Chef Kareem Vernon joining from Cow & Sow’s Clifton restaurant to lead the kitchen.
Following a series of soft-launch events for friends and family, The Field has begun welcoming local residents and visitors to its restaurant, café, bar and farm shop.
The retail offering includes locally sourced artisan products, gifts and pantry staples, with suppliers including West Country Legends and local baker Cake by Kym.
Fresh produce is also available, reflecting the business’s focus on ingredients grown locally and supplied through its associated farming operations.
The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and later dining menus, using produce grown at Cow & Sow’s Kitchen Farm and meat sourced through artisan butcher Walter Rose & Son.
Breakfast dishes include The Field’s signature cooked breakfast, featuring thick-cut bacon, sausage, black pudding, wild mushrooms, grilled tomato, baked beans, fried egg and toasted sourdough.
Other breakfast options include house-made granola and pancakes, while the wider menu incorporates seasonal ingredients and produce from the surrounding area.
The café provides a more informal dining option, serving baked goods supplied by The Newt in Somerset alongside coffee from Bristol-based Clifton Coffee Roasters.
Kareem Vernon, Head Chef at The Field, said:
“The Field is proud to celebrate sourcing and growing all produce locally – it’s a place to shop, eat, drink and spend quality time together. The Field has been in the works for a long time and this location, just opposite our Kitchen Farm in Flax Bourton, suits us perfectly. Since moving in, we have loved getting to know the locals, and have been bowled over by the warm response to the opening.”
The development also includes plans for a second phase, which could introduce a test kitchen and cookery school on the building’s first floor.
The proposed facilities would provide opportunities for culinary masterclasses and courses, including outdoor cooking sessions using fire on the terrace.
The project represents a further expansion of the Cow & Sow business, connecting its restaurant operations with food production, retail and culinary education.
Mark Warburton, Founder of The Field and Cow & Sow, said:
“Locals may have known The Field formerly as the Dew Drop Inn or The Jubilee in Flax Bourton. Shuttered for more than three years, this site was the perfect location to bring a new community hub to North Somerset, with a brand-new Kitchen, Café, Bar and Farm Shop.
“Myself, my wife Amy, our team as well as many friends, family and locals have all come together over the past few months to bring The Field to life. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us so far, we’ve been truly overwhelmed with the response and we can’t wait to welcome lots of new guests through the doors in the coming months.”
The opening marks another stage in the Warburtons’ hospitality development plans, bringing a previously closed village property back into use while supporting local producers and extending the Cow & Sow group’s operations beyond its established steakhouse restaurants.
