Fairmont New Orleans has officially opened, marking the 100th hotel worldwide for Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and the luxury brand’s return to the Louisiana city after an absence of two decades.

Fairmont New Orleans - Lobby - by Matias Varga

Located in the Central Business District, close to the French Quarter and Caesars Superdome, the 250-room hotel occupies 17 floors of the former Bank of New Orleans building.

Developed by Kailas Companies and operated by Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, part of Accor, the property combines restored architectural features with new accommodation, restaurants, bars and meeting facilities.

The building, originally designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in 1970, has undergone extensive restoration, including work to its original entrance canopy, lobby floors, concrete walls, decorative bronze panelling and cypress ceiling.

Interior design has been undertaken by Rockwell Group, drawing on New Orleans’ architectural and cultural heritage, with particular reference to the city’s development during the 1970s.

Omer Acar, CEO of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, said:

“Celebrating Fairmont’s landmark 100th hotel in New Orleans is a moment of perfect alignment. This is a city built on the very poetry of celebration, culture, and hospitality, setting the ultimate stage for such a historic milestone. After two decades away, returning to New Orleans feels like a joyful homecoming. This magnificent property is designed to be a vibrant social epicenter, a sanctuary where the city’s rich heritage meets a sophisticated, contemporary energy. Through meticulous design, spirited gastronomy, and exceptional spaces created for connection, we are not just opening a hotel; we are welcoming the soulful spirit of New Orleans back into the global Fairmont family for our next great chapter.”

The hotel’s 250 guest rooms and suites feature floor-to-ceiling windows, individually selected furnishings and artwork referencing Louisiana’s natural and cultural heritage.

Fairmont Gold, the brand’s hotel-within-a-hotel offering, is scheduled to launch in December across the 29th and 30th floors, incorporating a private lounge overlooking the Mississippi River, dedicated concierge services and additional guest facilities.

Food and beverage forms a significant part of the development, with Fairmont partnering with chef Emeril Lagasse and The Emeril Group to introduce two dining concepts.

Delmonico Steakhouse represents the New Orleans debut of the restaurant concept and its first location outside Las Vegas.

The restaurant specialises in American steakhouse cuisine, including dry-aged prime beef, Japanese Wagyu, seafood and an oyster and caviar offering. Tableside preparations include Chateaubriand, Caesar salad and Bananas Foster.

The Café by Emeril provides a more informal dining experience, serving breakfast and lunch with a menu combining French brasserie dishes, Creole flavours and Southern influences.

Chef Emeril Lagasse said:

“I’m thrilled to bring Delmonico Steakhouse to New Orleans alongside The Café by Emeril, creating two distinct dining experiences that reflect what I love about cooking and bringing people together. We’re proud to be a part of Fairmont’s return to the city and look forward to welcoming both locals and visitors to experience the bold flavors, genuine hospitality, and unmistakable New Orleans spirit that defines everything we do.”

Further food and beverage facilities are scheduled to open in December, including Bleu Perdu, a rooftop restaurant and lounge located alongside the hotel’s swimming pool on the 31st floor.

The rooftop venue will offer views across New Orleans and the Mississippi River, with outdoor seating, cabanas and facilities for live entertainment.

Third Measure, a cocktail bar developed in collaboration with New Orleans hospitality operator Neal Bodenheimer, will also open in December. The venue will draw inspiration from the city’s cocktail traditions and musical heritage.

A 10,000 sq ft spa and fitness centre is also scheduled to launch in December, providing treatment rooms, sauna and steam facilities, relaxation areas and a fitness studio.

The hotel has opened with more than 19,000 sq ft of meeting and event facilities, accommodating gatherings ranging from small corporate meetings to celebrations of up to 500 guests.

Nine primary event spaces include two ballrooms of approximately 4,000 sq ft each, six meeting rooms and an executive boardroom.

The ballrooms occupy the building’s restored second floor, formerly the main lobby of the Bank of New Orleans, incorporating original architectural features alongside new lighting and event facilities.

Eric Overstreet, General Manager of Fairmont New Orleans, said:

“Today marks an exciting new chapter for Fairmont New Orleans and for our city. From the moment guests enter our lobby to an evening at Delmonico Steakhouse, the hotel was designed to feel distinctly of New Orleans, while offering the service and experience Fairmont is known for. We’re proud to welcome travelers and our local community into these spaces and look forward to seeing Fairmont New Orleans become part of the city’s next chapter.”

The opening marks a milestone in Fairmont Hotels & Resorts’ international expansion, adding a further luxury property to Accor’s global portfolio while re-establishing the brand’s presence in New Orleans.
