De Ruijter brings more than 30 years of international hospitality experience to the role, having overseen luxury hotel operations, pre-opening projects, mixed-use resorts and branded residences across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the United States.

He began his hospitality career in the mid-1990s with a management internship at Marriott’s World Centre in Orlando, Florida, before progressing into senior hotel management positions across several international markets.

Throughout his career, de Ruijter has overseen multiple hotel openings across four continents and managed a number of established luxury properties.

His previous positions include leadership roles at Sofitel The Palm Dubai, part of Accor’s luxury portfolio, and The Chedi Luštica Bay in Montenegro.

Most recently, he held a senior management position at Marriott International’s St. Regis Hotel & Residences in Belgrade, Serbia.

In his new role, de Ruijter will oversee operations at The Alexander, a 114-guestroom property operating under Marriott International’s Luxury Collection brand.

Located in Armenia’s capital, The Alexander was the first internationally branded luxury hotel in Yerevan and forms part of Aimbridge Hospitality EMEA’s managed hotel portfolio.

Marc de Ruijter, General Manager of The Alexander, said:

“I’m very proud to be managing The Alexander here in Yerevan, a truly unique hotel that offers guests calm elegance surrounded by beautiful Armenian design, with refined food and beverage choices and stunning city views.”

The appointment brings further international luxury hotel management experience to Aimbridge Hospitality EMEA as the company continues to oversee properties across several European and international markets.

David Anderson, President of Aimbridge EMEA, said:

“I’d like to welcome Marc to the Aimbridge EMEA team. He brings an impressive amount of hotel management experience, with multiple award wins and landmark projects to his name.”

De Ruijter’s appointment strengthens the leadership team at The Alexander, with his experience in luxury hospitality, hotel openings and resort operations supporting the property’s ongoing management and development.
