Iniala, the visionary hotel group founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Mark Weingard, today announces its most ambitious venture to date. The group’s 2026 expansion will transform Iniala Valletta into a ‘boutique resort at a city scale,’ woven into the historic fabric of this UNESCO World Heritage site.

Since opening the first wing, Harbour House in 2020, Iniala has placed Malta on the global luxury map, notably retaining its status as Malta’s only Forbes Five-Star for five consecutive years, while also becoming the first two Michelin Key hotel on the island last year. Building on this foundation, the 2026 expansion introduces the Solis wing, the Magistero wing on Republic Street, and the sculptural FrancoMaria Suite. These additions bring 21 new keys to the offering, part of a strategic trajectory to reach 90 rooms by 2027 and 150 by 2030. This growth will be further enhanced by OneAvant, a state-of-the-art guest management system offering seamless digital control over the stay, and elevated by the launch of Within in September 2026, a groundbreaking longevity wellbeing ecosystem.
The culinary landscape also evolves with the debut of SiR by Simon Rogan and Anaalā by Chef Ian Kittichai. Simultaneously, ION Harbour enters a new era as Simon Rogan MBE increases his on-site presence, focusing on elevating the two-Michelin-starred restaurant to even higher levels of achievement. By late 2026, Iniala will host four signature dining destinations.
This new chapter is led by General Manager Claudia Schwarze, formerly of Aman Venice and Amankila Bali, who oversees Iniala’s refined intuitive service philosophy. Rooted in the Thai principles of Metta (loving-kindness), Nam Jai (generosity from the heart), and Sabai (tranquillity), this intuitive approach ensures the human element remains the heartbeat of the boutique resort. The expansion is defined by a creative collective of world-renowned designers, including Sebastian Brajkovic, Verter Turroni (Imperfetto Lab), Joaquín Torres and Rafael Llamazares (A-cero), and Greta Design, who have integrated contemporary artistry into Valletta’s historic stone.
Mark Weingard, Founder of Iniala, comments: ‘Iniala Valletta was never going to be just a hotel. From the moment we opened our doors in Valletta, we knew we were building something far greater, a new kind of luxury, one that places world-class design, extraordinary gastronomy, and transformative wellbeing at the very heart of one of the world’s great historic cities. The 2026 expansion is not an addition to what we have built. It is the realisation of what we always intended Iniala to become.’
Opening 17 July 2026, Solis, a Maltese palazzo, is an architectural masterpiece designed by Madrid-based studio A-cero. Situated just behind the flagship hotel, it offers the same impressive views over the Grand Harbour skyline from its exclusive rooftop pool, the Solis Club, and its culinary highlight, the rooftop restaurant Anaalā. A-cero founders Joaquín Torres and Rafael Llamazares have applied a concept of excavated architecture, carving modern, sculptural spaces within the building’s millennial stone to create an atmosphere of effortless, timeless elegance. Each suite features bespoke furnishings and stone surfaces that integrate into the architecture, using curated natural light to accentuate the raw texture of local globigerina limestone.
Perched atop the new property, Anaalā by Ian Kittichai debuts in Valletta at Iniala Solis, bringing the celebrated Thai chef’s artistry to the city’s rooftops. Offering sweeping harbour views, Anaalā is set to be a sensory destination that fuses the aromatic elegance of Thai cuisine with the golden light and sea breeze of Malta. This vibrant experience marries authentic heritage with modern techniques.
Chef Ian Kittichai, on the launch of Anaalā Malta, comments: ‘After the success of Anaalā at Iniala Beach House in Thailand, I am excited to bring those same fire-driven flavours from the sands of Natai Beach to the historic heart of Malta. My mission has always been to push the limits of how people perceive Thai food, and at Iniala Solis, we are marrying that authentic Thai heritage with modern techniques to create a truly global gastronomic experience.’
Situated in the centre of Valletta on historic Republic Street, Iniala’s Magistero wing is a 21st-century statement featuring eleven exceptional suites designed by Verter Turroni of Italy’s Imperfetto Lab that is set to open in October 2026. Each room is a singular universe, united by a fearless, outlandish spirit but unique in form; every object is a functional sculpture created specifically for this project, ensuring no two rooms share the same pieces. In a world-first hotel collaboration, Magistero replaces conventional televisions with a cinema experience, featuring Hisense L9Q Laser Projectors casting screens across the walls, paired with state-of-the-art Devialet speakers. Precision craftsmanship defines the bathrooms and wardrobes co-designed with Greta Design, while curated artwork and soft furnishings from Turroni’s collaborative network of artists lend each room an authentic, lived-in soul.
SiR by Simon Rogan is designed to be the beating heart of the Magistero building and Valletta’s most exciting new social hub. The dining room is an architectural statement by Imperfetto Lab, where texture, light, and unexpected material choices ensure the space becomes part of the meal itself. Playful yet refined, SiR invites guests to graze, share, and linger in a space where design, food, and conversation collide.
Chef Simon Rogan adds, ‘SiR draws on many influences but remains rooted in its surroundings, celebrating Malta’s heritage and exceptional produce. I thrive on that pursuit, working closely with my team to continually raise standards with every service, and lead by example. The concept is built around sharing plates, innovative food, and great service in beautiful surroundings where people can come together and enjoy themselves.’
Set within vaulted stone interiors, the FrancoMaria Suite pays homage to the house’s history, named after the residents – Franco and Maria – who called the space home for 60 years. The suite is defined by the volume and character of its historic architecture, featuring interiors developed around bespoke furniture pieces by Sebastian Brajkovic and Greta Design. Honouring the building’s heritage, the design pairs marble flooring and neutral tones with subtle blush accents to create a space of warmth and clarity. A separate living room, dressing area, and expansive bathroom lend a distinctly residential feel.
Seamlessly integrating these new features is OneAvant, Iniala’s sophisticated guest management system. Designed for effortless interaction, OneAvant allows guests to manage their entire stay via their phone or an in-room tablet, from booking bespoke experiences and ordering world-class cuisine to speaking with the concierge and maintaining precise digital control over their room’s ambiance, including lighting, curtains, and climate.
Vitalis (formerly Iniala Modern) is also undergoing a comprehensive refresh, with each of its five harbour-facing suites reimagined to align with Iniala Valletta’s evolving design language, alongside a newly added massage and wellbeing room. This summer also sees the transformation of the Spa at Iniala Valletta, with elevated treatment rooms and a new cold plunge pool marking the first phase of Within, a groundbreaking longevity ecosystem launching in September 2026 that integrates advanced diagnostics in partnership with Saint James Hospital, to establish a new benchmark for executive wellbeing.
The 2026 expansion is only the beginning. Threading world-class design, extraordinary cuisine, and transformative wellbeing through the golden limestone streets of a living, breathing UNESCO World Heritage city, Iniala’s long-term vision, Iniala Valletta, will see 90 rooms and five dining destinations by 2027, coinciding with the launch of the Within ecosystem. By 2030, 150 rooms will be woven through Valletta’s historic eastern quarter, a boutique resort at city scale, something that has never existed before.
