Celebrating October’s Kitchen Porters of the Month

November 3, 2025

Each month, the Kitchen Porters Club proudly recognises the heroes of hospitality, the kitchen porters whose work keeps operations running seamlessly across care homes, schools, hotels, pubs, and restaurants. Their dedication often takes place behind the scenes, but their impact is front and centre.

These awards exist thanks to colleagues who take the time to nominate them, a simple yet powerful act that says people matter here. Every nomination reinforces a culture rooted in appreciation, teamwork, and shared pride.

October proved another busy and inspiring month for the judging team, with exceptional entries competing for the Kitchen Porter of the Month title, a growing mark of respect within hospitality and catering.

This month, the honour goes to two outstanding winners:
Scott Marshallsay, a trainee at The Crumbs Project, and Charles Memeng, a kitchen porter at BM Caterers.

Scott was nominated by Ursula Boardman, Head of Centre at Crumbs, who wrote: “Scott’s work ethic is outstanding. He keeps the kitchen spotless, supports the team with a positive attitude, and always steps in when extra help is needed.”

Charles was nominated by Daryll Young, Head of Chef Development & Innovation at BM Caterers, who said: “Charles is simply a great guy — always smiling, always willing to help, always going the extra mile. He has a great work ethic, helps out with after-hour BM events, and is a highly valued team member.”

Paul Anderson, Managing Director of Meiko UK and Chair of The Kitchen Porters Club, shared his thoughts on this month’s awards: “The array of entries every month clearly demonstrates heartfelt appreciation of kitchen porters, and positive team cultures across hospitality and catering workplaces.

“Nominations reflect a sense of team, camaraderie, and people-focused culture at the forefront of our industry. We celebrate this, appreciate all nominations received, and congratulate every nominee on their achievements.”

To mark their success, Scott and Charles will each receive a Kitchen Porters Club membership certificate, branded apron, and water bottle, tokens of appreciation for their invaluable work. Photos of their presentations will be shared soon.

On the subject of winners, we’re also delighted to feature Paul Tidey, one of August’s recipients, a trainee at The Crumbs Project who has a learning disability and hearing loss proudly receiving his branded apron, water bottle, and membership certificate. Congratulations, Paul we see you.
